Pause For Renewal

I was reading articles about stillness.  I was trying to get a deeper understanding of what exactly stillness was because so many people seemed to identify it so differently.

I flipped links on Google, and I found this gem of an article.  It comes from Uplift.  The link is here….  Here is an excerpt from the article.

We are starving for stillness and silence in our culture. Doesn’t it seem like there is noise and chaos everywhere? The truth is that the world is not going to slow down and get less noisy simply because you want it to. You have to commit to taking time to pause. I’ve grown to appreciate that pausing truly is golden. Taking breaks settle me in a matter of minutes.

I didn’t always feel this way.

I used to surround myself with noise. I’d fall asleep with the television blaring, have pop music playing in my car and home, and talk, talk, talk until my throat was sore. Now I seek silence every day and I encourage you to do the same.

This struck a chord in me and around me.  This… this is what they are talking about "in stillness".

The Bee and Jupiter

This is a great little teaching story about wanting power and control.

The Bee and Jupiter

A BEE from Mount Hymettus, the queen of the hive, ascended to Olympus to present Jupiter with some honey fresh from her combs.

Jupiter, delighted with the offering of honey, promised to give whatever she should ask.

She therefore besought him, saying, "Give me, I pray thee, a sting, that if any mortal shall approach to take my honey, I may kill him."

Jupiter was much displeased, for he loved the race of man, but could not refuse the request because of his promise.

He thus answered the Bee: "You shall have your request, but it will be at the peril of your own life. For if you use your sting, it shall remain in the wound you make, and then you will die from the loss of it."

Evil wishes, like chickens, come home to roost.

As we get more into Fall, there is an abundance of great, fresh vegetables and fruits available for making all sorts of dishes.  And, if you are like me, something new, gluten free, and easy to make, is the type of recipe that I am looking for.  Luckily, I found this recipe many years ago.  I am now sharing it with you!

Walk in peace,

This is a great versatile cracker/thin bread that just goes with everything!

  • 1 1/2 C walnuts
  • 1 1/2 C almonds
  • 1/4 C ground flax seeds soaked in 3/4 C water for 1 hour
  • 3/4 C ground sesame seeds
  • 2 LG carrots
  • 1/4 C red bell pepper (optional)
  • 2 ribs of celery
  • 1 pear, cored but not peeled
  • 1 small beet, peeled and chopped
  • 1 C fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 orange (peeling included), seeds removed
  • 1 1/2 C water
  • 1/2 C olive oil
  • 2 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 tsp. lemon pepper

Grind nuts in food processor and place in a large bowl. Continue processing and adding ingredients until all are added. Mix well. Your mixture will be a kind of "rose" pink. Pour out to about 1/4" thickness onto dehydrator sheets and dehydrate for about 3 hours @ 115 degrees. Flip and continue drying for another 6 hours. If you want a crispier cracker, spread thin and dry for additional time.

If you do not have a dehydrator, pour on to cookie sheets covered with parchment paper, and use a setting of 190 degrees. Flip after 3 hours, depending on how crispy you like your crackers.

Angels Speak - Patience

The Angels say that humans have little patience for most things. Everyone is always in a hurry.  If one's path gets blocked, they have no patience and turn to anger to resolve the situation.  This trait was the beginning of road rage.  People traveling have no patience for someone who is a more cautious driver or simply a slower driver.

Humans are like that with their food, their sports, and their jobs.  Everyone wants everything instantly, and without road blocks.

Those who have patience, are generally without ego, and are able to "go with the flow".  They are on their way to that mindfulness and acceptance of life.  Very little slows them down.

Many blessings.

The Illusive Happiness

The topic of happiness comes up again and again.  Happiness is a different "thing" to each individual and therefore, it is hard to quantify or to describe.

Some of the things that people say make them happy:

  • Completing a job that is well done
  • Hiking with friends or with my dog
  • Having a meal with family/good friends
  • Watching my child grow and change
  • Playing the piano
  • Watching a movie
  • Baking
  • Surveying which is part of my job

All these offerings of happiness show the uniqueness of each individual's specific "happy".

Today, try to find those moments that make you happy!

Many blessings.

Angels Speak - If You Are Happy

The Angels say that if you are happy, then you will be happy anywhere.  They say that the sad part of life is most humans look to find happiness outside of themselves.  The unhappy people look to find a person, or thing, or job, or location, that will make them happy.

The Angels say that the happiness, the joy of life, must come from within.  Happiness is a choice, regardless of your circumstances.

That last bit – regardless of your circumstances – is a bit hard for most of us to swallow.  We believe/feel that "something" is against us and that we have the challenge that we are facing.

The truth of happiness seems to be that it is illusive for many, for various reasons.

Many blessings.

A Great Writing About Attitudes

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

Spirit Speaks - Beat the Blahs

As the summer draws to an end, sometimes, we suffer from the blahs.

I have a solution for the blahs that also qualifies under “love” and is guaranteed to make you feel fine. Anyone that has studied with me knows that I believe in the power of meditation – not only “the sit in silence and let your mind be blank” meditation; I believe in active meditation.

Active meditation means that you need to be part of the meditation and not have the meditation “happen” to you. Over the years, I have taught variations of the “LOVING KINDNESS” meditation. I have recently learned this one and wish to share it with you.

Say it out loud when sitting in meditation. Say it out loud as a walking meditation, even when you walk your dog. My dog loves it! Say it at night before you go to bed.

May I be free from inner and outer harm and danger. May I be safe and protected. May I be free of mental suffering or distress. May I be happy.

May I be free of physical pain and suffering. May I be healthy and strong. May I be able to live in this world happily, peacefully, joyfully, with ease!

This is actually the first step in the “loving kindness” meditation. However, it is a beautiful, empowering, feel good message that lets you feel fine.

Don’t give up if you do not feel a shift in the first several days. Persevere!

Many blessings!

Buddha Speaks–The Raft is not the Shore

This week has been a series of small challenges… all solvable, but each its own challenge.  Sometimes, that is overwhelming.  It makes me think of this little teaching by Buddha.

The Raft Is Not the Shore

The teaching is merely a vehicle to explain the truth. Don't mistake it for the truth itself. The teaching is like the raft that carries you to the other shore. The raft is needed, but the raft is not the other shore.

An intelligent person would not carry the raft on his head once he reaches the other shore. Use my teaching to help you get to the other shore, but do not hang onto it as your property. You must be able to let it go. — Buddha

Spirit Animal – Canada Goose

“The wild geese take flight low along the railroad tracks in the moonlight night.” Haiku written by Shiki

The Canada Goose is a wild goose native to the Arctic and Canada, and parts of the US. It has a black head and neck, white patches on the face, and a brownish-gray body. Goose lives for a life span of ten to twenty four years in the wild, and longer in captivity. In 2005, two writers, Farid A. Muna and Ned Mansour wrote a fascinating article entitled, “Leadership Lessons Learned From Canada Geese”. A synopsis of the article, as listed by Emerald Group Publishing Limited, shows that Goose is worth emulating.

“The first lesson is: work as a team: Canada Geese migrate long distances flying in V-formation. This formation results in lesser wind resistance, which allows the whole flock to add around 70 percent greater flying range than if each bird flew alone. Geese find out quickly that it pays handsomely to be team players. Second, wise leadership: when the leader at the apex of the V gets tired, it is relieved by another goose. Leaders rotate, empower, delegate, and even step down when it's in the best interest of the team. How often do we see this taking place among organizational leaders? Wise leaders ensure that their followers are well trained and developed in order to achieve true empowerment and smooth succession processes. Third, humane behavior: if a goose drops to the ground when it gets hurt or sick, two of its colleagues go down with it to take care of it until it either gets healthier or dies. In this fast-paced and competitive age, we seldom see managers going out of their way to help colleagues who are in trouble. In organizations, morale, productivity, and loyalty increase when employees are treated humanely.”

So, how does your team leader measure up to Goose. If you are the leader, are you as compassionate and as wonderful a team player as Goose?

Many Blessings.

What Do You Let Into Your Life

What a world we live in!  So beautiful because of the mountains, and oceans, forests, and so sad because of the destruction, hate and violence.

The Angels say that hate is seed planted by the darkness when a person is at their most vulnerable.  The hate is then directed at all things.

The only defense against hate is to use light and love in your life, and to use this to keep the hate out.  This is necessary because if hate is allowed in, like rot in an apple, hate will take over the being.

We all deserve love and light, and we are the only ones that can let it into our lives.

Many blessings.

The Best Day of Your Life

I think that we often forget that we are in charge of our own lives.  When people try to manipulate you for their own agenda, the manipulation only works if we let them.  So many people, especially our families, use guilt and blame to manipulate us into doing their bidding.

Today, when someone tries manipulation on you, see if it works if you say, "That does not work with my immediate plans.  I am sorry. Here is my suggestion."  Use discretion when saying this.  It may not work with a boss or co-worker because you may need to come up with a different phrase for them.  Still, all of us need to find a way to live our lives and go about our daily tasks with our own agenda at the top of what needs to happen.

Many blessings.

We All Get A Different Question Paper For Life

The Angels talk about the way so many people imitate someone else.  Instead of trying new things that are unique, they mimic what someone else has done, or is wearing, or is experiencing.

The Angels call this a human tragedy.  With all the millions of people on Earth, instead of doing new things, people are content with the brainwashing of the media and the celebrities who push their ideas, clothing, makeup, and endorsements on the world.

No wonder so many people fail at life.

On Being Alone

Each of us has had the experience of being alone or at least, feeling very alone. Our spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend may walk away from a long term relationship. A spouse/loved one may die. Our children or our best friend moves away. All of these things make us feel alone. Some of us just feel blue. Others have a "pity party" and indulge in the feeling and then move on. Others fall into depression.

The angels say to call on them when you have this very lonely feeling. They have the perfect remedy. When you call on them, they will pop the name of someone who is also feeling lonely, into your head, and give you the thought to call this person. Once you start chatting, the feeling of loneliness starts to fade. You are a light being and as you spread light, there is only warmth and peace. And, you are not alone.

Many Blessings!

Seeking Adventure

Sometimes, we over think things in our lives, and talk ourselves out of doing "stuff" for this reason or that reason.

The Universe is set up so that everything is perfect!  So whether we take a job and do not stay at it for long, or if we meet the person that we think we can live with forever, and it ends suddenly, it IS all perfect.  Each part of the weaving of life is an adventure that provides us with experience that we do not know we will need until much later in life.

The Universe does a fantastic job of prepping us for what is to come.  And yes, even addictions and crime play a part in the weaving of life.  Each of those themes is something that we must learn in this lifetime, either as a balance for what has been or for what is to come.

Many blessings.

Comparing Self to Others

A big lesson that many of us have to learn is that we cannot keep comparing ourselves to other people.  If we were all exactly the same, then we could compare.  Since each of us is unique, comparison does not work.

In fact, the Angels say, that when we start comparing ourselves to others, we are really reacting to a mirror of a part of ourselves that we have not yet dealt with, and that we need to put to rest.  That is a huge idea!

In comparing to others, we are pulling out the parts of us that need to be worked on.  Whether it is physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual work, when a comparison pops up, now is the time to do the work.

Ask yourself:

Why is this comparison of "xxxx" so important to me?
  • Why do I need to learn this at this time in my life?
  • What is the bigger lesson here?
  • Who else is affected by my lesson?

Many blessings.

July 12 Partial Solar Eclipse

Picture of Partial Solar Eclipse

An eclipse brings change.  Read the following information, and then go and read the whole article.

This is from the site -

The New Moon on Thursday July 12, 2018 at 20° Cancer is a partial solar eclipse. The Solar Eclipse July 2018 astrology is influenced by a powerful opposition to minor planet Pluto. This indicates some sort of crisis with your self-esteem, a relationship or an event. An equally intense fixed star brings the potential for neurotic distress triggered by a deeply buried subconscious fear of disaster.

The July 2018 Solar Eclipse signals the right time to transform something in your life holding you back from happiness and success. A fortunate Grand Trine configuration allows you to apply this transformation to your love life, finances or creative work. Hard work and determination will unleash the potential and opportunity held within the grand trine to help avert a personal crisis.

Nourishing Ourselves

The Angels say that we must nourish ourselves continuously as we move through the next several years.  The changing energies, weather, and fluctuations in our abilities will cause us to feel very tired and almost depressed unless we take care of ourselves.

We are in a beautiful time of change.  We see the light move around us and we see new acts of kindness and goodness.  In the upheaval, we see Nature take on a new role where she spews out lava, rocks the world with earthquakes, and drowns the Earth with rain or drought.  We can get through all of this with a little self care.

Many blessings.

Self Care

I have been quite busy with work and family stuff.  The Angels have been telling me that I need to make sure that as well as taking care of others and other things, that I must take care of myself.  They say that I need more rest and more fun.  I am planning some fun things!

As always, when I need something to spur me to action, a nifty article comes my way. Here is a fantastic meditation or mantra on self care from Louise Hay.

I love my body.
My body is perfect for me at this time. My body weight is also perfect. I am exactly where I choose to be. I am beautiful, and every day I become more attractive. This concept used to be very hard for me to accept, yet things are changing now that I am treating myself as if I were someone who was deeply loved. I’m learning to reward myself with healthy little treats and pleasures now and again. Little acts of love nurture me, doing things that I really like, such as quiet time, a walk in nature, a hot soothing bath, or anything that really gives me pleasure. I enjoy caring for myself. I believe it is okay to like myself and to be my own best friend. I know my body is filled with star light and that I sparkle and glow everywhere I go.

Let's Talk About Kindness

I often wonder how people were raised when I see people act unkindly to others.  I wonder why bullying in schools, and via social media, has gotten to be such a huge problem.  Bullying is so unkind.  And then, I wonder why so many people have decided that they must kill other people that they know.  This is the ultimate unkindness.

The light is an amazing gift – that is – the light to be kind, courteous, mindful, and compassionate.  The light helps people to be kind to others and to recognize the "right" thing to do.  A good example of goodness/kindness is three people in Toronto who rushed to lift a blind person from the train tracks where the person had fallen off the platform.  One of the heroes said, "It was the right thing to do!"

Kindness and the ability to be kind is being tested harder than it has ever been tested in the history of mankind.  How will you answer the call to be kind?

Many blessings.

Happy Canada Day–July 1 2018

Happy Canada Day!  For me, Canada Day is a reminder that we need to celebrate this wonderful country of ours.

If you cannot think of a reason to celebrate, check out this article by MacLean's News.  It will show you how very many reasons we have to be excited about living in Canada.

Now, I need to get back to my celebrating.

Why You Are Feeling Sad? – By Osho

Sadness is nothing but the same energy that could have been happiness.

When you don’t see that your happiness is flowering, you become sad. Whenever you see somebody happy, you become sad: Why is it not happening to you? It can happen to you! There is no problem in it. You just have to uncondition your past. You will have to go a little out of the way for it to happen, so just make a little effort to open yourself. Even if it feels a little painful in the beginning…. In the beginning it will feel painful.

Start one meditation in the night, from tonight. Just feel as if you are not a human being at all. You can choose any animal that you like. If you like a cat, good. If you like a dog, good…or a tiger — male, female — anything you like. Just choose, but then stick to it. Become that animal. Move on all fours in the room and become that animal.

For fifteen minutes enjoy the fantasy as much as you can. Bark if you are a dog and do things a dog is expected to do — and really do them! Enjoy it and don’t control, because a dog cannot control. A dog means absolute freedom, so whatsoever happens in that moment, do. In that moment don’t bring in the human element of control. Be really doggedly a dog! For fifteen minutes roam around the room…bark, jump. Continue this for seven days. It will help.

You need a little more animal energy. You are too sophisticated, too civilized, and that is crippling you.

Too much civilization is a paralyzing thing. It is good in a small dose

but too much of it is very dangerous. One should always remain capable of being an animal.

Your animal has to be freed; that is the problem as I see it. If you can learn to be a little wild, all your problems will disappear. So start from tonight — and enjoy it!

Keeping Close to Nature

The Angels tell us that now that Summer Solstice is past, we need to spend much time outside, in Nature, assimilating all the light that is available from other places in the Universe.

Now is the time for the energies to be re-charged with new light from far away.  This charging of the energies will bring new challenges for us.  We will become empowered and not easily swayed by corporate messages, political messages, or media influence.  We will become more awake to the manipulating that is happening to us and around us.

Being outside will allow us to detox with Nature.  The trees will cleanse us of disease, EMF, and toxic substances that we ingest when we eat food from elsewhere.  Don't worry if you get flu-like symptoms, that is part of the process.

Many blessings.

Taking a Break

Life sometimes gets too busy for us to cope with everything that is going on – work, family, friends, illnesses, hobbies, socializing, memberships…. you get the idea.

Since April 2018, I have been taking a break from some of the things that I have been doing for a long time.  So, if you are still following the blog, you will see that I am ready to start up again.

Thank you for all of you readers that have sent special emails to see if I am okay, and to offer support for me taking a break, and encouragement to start up again.  I appreciate all of you!  Thank you!

My Angels want me to remind you to listen to your heart and soul and act upon what you feel.  Taking a break is a good way to re-energize and find your passion for doing something, again.

Many blessings.

Our family loves soda bread.  We use this recipe because it tastes good, and it feels like it lifts our spirits.

If you feel down, try the soda bread.

1 cup whole wheat flour

2 tablespoons of granulated sugar (I use brown sugar)

1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder

½ teaspoon of baking soda

½ teaspoon of sea salt

1/3 cup of grated cheddar cheese (for a different taste, use raisins or currents)

1 tablespoon of rosemary flakes or crushed rosemary or fresh herb rosemary as in the picture

1 egg 1 ¼ cups of buttermilk (I use regular milk with 2 tablespoons of white vinegar)

3 tablespoons of vegetable oil

In a large bowl, combine all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir together well. Stir in cheese and rosemary seeds into flour mixture.

In a separate bowl, combine egg, buttermilk and oil. Pour liquid ingredients over flour mixture and very lightly combine together into rough dough.

Wednesday, 4 April 2018

Several days ago, I was feeling sad because my Dad was gone, and I was feeling glad because he was now released from the body that was starting to weigh him down. As he said, "It just doesn't work right anymore!"

I went out and sat under the arbour and mountain ash tree. I relaxed my body back into the swing chair, and closed my eyes. Within minutes, I could feel something watching me and there was bird song all around. I thought the birds were eating the berries in the tree. I looked up. There were about half a dozen sparrows hopping around the tree and looking at me, like they were concerned. Yes, I do put birdseed out, however, it's not like they are dependent upon me for food.

I wondered what was up. Then they started flying past me, quite close to my face. The dogs came and sat with me, and watched the birds. Pretty soon they were swooping over the dogs. It was quite a show! They were trying to tell me something.

Sparrows are noted for eating a wide variety of insects, and will fly up around the house. This year, they have kept our garden quite free of the normal pests that eat our lettuce and spinach and tomatoes. Chairman Mao Tse-Tung learned, with disastrous consequences, what happens when one dishonours the sparrow. He calculated that a sparrow could eat almost ten pounds of rice per year, and that if he killed a million sparrows, he'd have enough rice to feed an additional 60,000 people. The Chinese people were commanded to kill as many sparrows as possible. In Shantung province, the locals killed an estimated 2.7 million sparrows. The amount of rice did not increase with the death of the sparrows. It diminished. The insects that the sparrows normally killed, ate and damaged rice well in excess of what the sparrows ate. Chairman Mao decided he'd had a bad idea and ordered the people to be friends with the sparrows so the population would return to normal.

Sparrows are noted for representing abundance - both substantial and spiritually. The Japanese have a story about a sparrow’s gifting an old woodsman with gold and silver. There is also a story about a sparrow singing to Jesus as he hung on the cross. Songs have been written about the relationship between God and the sparrow. In ancient times, sparrows were thought to carry the souls of the dead up to the Gods. Our ancestors believed it was bad luck to kill a sparrow because this stopped them (the sparrow) from fulfilling its task.

Taking all of this information into context, it seemed to me that the sparrows were telling me to cheer up. They were saying that I was well taken care of, and that Dad was also well looked after. Sparrow’s song was a reminder to stay grounded (as are the colours) and stay in the present moment. The present is full of joy and peace and wonder. Their aerial acrobatics were reinforcing that I should use the gifts of my third eye and connect with the Divine to see the perfection in everything. It is good advice!

April 1 2018–This Month, Walk With Nature

April Fool's day – a day for playing jokes.  This blog is not about joking.  It is about waking up and realizing that we need Nature in our lives.  It is about remembering that we come from Nature – from the Earth.  Our blood flows red with iron richness and lots of mineral and gases that are part of the Earth's structure.

We need to be out in Nature to restore our calm and to remind ourselves that we must care for the plants, animals, birds, etc. because they are our cousins.  They carry the same ingredients in their bodies.

It is sad that we want to destroy the parks and rivers and lakes to "develop" them.  And, yes, in some places, wild lands are being reclaimed so that new life can flourish in those spots.

Today, decide to be out in Nature for one hour a week.  Then slowly increase the time.

Many blessings.

Spirit Speaks - The Spiritual Path is Stepping Into the Unknown

The mystics in the world are writing about the opening up to spirituality that will be transforming people over the next twenty years.  Spirit tells us that this spiritual path is different for everyone. People seldom have the same experiences and processes.  Each of us is wired to experience life differently and so we each must have a unique spiritual experience.  Each day will open up new experiences for us to process and to grow with.  It will be challenging.  It will be frustrating at times.  It will help us grow into the being that will make a difference.

Spirit Speaks - On Being Happy

When you ask someone if they are happy, chances are that they will respond with "not really", or "not usually", or something like that.  Spirit tells us that many people want to be happy but that they are looking for someone or something outside of themselves to make them happy. Most people do not understand that happiness has to come from a place inside you.  It is the spark that makes you see the beauty in Nature and to feel playfulness to play with your children or pets.  It is the feeling that all is well regardless of what the complainers and nay-sayers are telling you.

Being happy is the gift of not caring about the drama going on around you.

Many blessings.

Angels Speak - On Being Humble

One of the challenges of being around people today is having to deal with people who have huge egos.  Through their ego, they believe that they are right all the time, that they know everything, including all the answers, and that we, the audience are just ignorant, and must listen to them.  Truly, it gets tiring!

We see the egos at work, in stores and restaurants, and sometimes in our family and friends.  When people are so egotistical and rude, it is really difficult to wish them "loving kindness".  Yet, the lesson for us is that those with egos are the ones that need loving kindness.  We can be humble and we can help others, quietly and lovingly, without the noise.

Many blessings.

Spring Equinox March 20 2018

This spring equinox is part of the beginning of the 19-Year cycle that started with the January 31 Full Moon and Eclipse.  It is a time of karmic changes that look at Love, Relationships with Others and with The Earth, and a time to look at our spiritual gifts.

I think that this prayer is an awesome prayer to offer up on this Equinox.

Earth, Teach Me!

Earth teach me quiet ~ as the grasses are still with new light.
Earth teach me suffering ~ as old stones suffer with memory.
Earth teach me humility ~ as blossoms are humble with beginning.
Earth teach me caring ~ as mothers nurture their young.
Earth teach me courage ~ as the tree that stands alone.
Earth teach me limitation ~ as the ant that crawls on the ground.
Earth teach me freedom ~ as the eagle that soars in the sky.
Earth teach me acceptance ~ as the leaves that die each fall.
Earth teach me renewal ~ as the seed that rises in the spring.
Earth teach me to forget myself ~ as melted snow forgets its life.
Earth teach me to remember kindness ~ as dry fields weep with rain.

Many blessings.

Spirit Guides in Black and White - Penguin

This blog is in answer to several readers who have sent in questions about Penguin showing up in their dreams or during the day in a picture or on television.  And, this blog is a partial answer to why some guidance seems to be in black and white.

Penguins have been around for 30 to 40 million years as verified by the six foot fossils found. This makes Penguin one of the older spirit guides.

When Penguin first appears to you, do not be surprised if she bows. As well as looking formal in their black and white attire, Penguins have an intricate social pattern that includes bowing to one’s mate upon leaving and arriving in the nest, bowing to others as they move throughout the society. Bowing represents a tool for appeasement and to maintain social structure. Those who have Penguin as a guide are encouraged to become more polite and attentive to how the social structure around them is holding together. Perhaps you are being called to pay honor to your mate or to your friends. Perhaps you need to appease someone where you have been harsh with your words or actions. Penguin also moves in straight lines when they are gathered in groups and moves with orderliness and a sense of purpose. They are determined and focus. If you lack determination and focus, ask Penguin to assist you in strengthening these areas.

As Penguin has become smaller (see side bar about height of six feet) and more aquatic, its ability to see out of water has diminished. It sees best in the water. As water also represents emotion, then Penguin has the clarity to see through the emotion and get to the heart of the issue. Additionally, Penguin moves through the water with the style of an acrobat or ballerina. They may be awkward on land, but Penguin is graceful and fluid in the water, twisting and turning and shooting upward, achieving speeds of 25 miles per hour. Penguin then teaches about tuning to your inner rhythm, and how to move with speed through emotions, shortening the time you would otherwise spend there.

Pay attention to Penguin’s color. Black and white, ying and yang, magic and mystery! The whiteness of the Penguin represents the awakening spirit and the light of all that is – as does the whiteness where it resides. The black represents the unknown, the density, and the different dimensions. The balance in Penguin’s color shows you how to balance and merge the darkness and the light, and to move between worlds as the Penguin moves between the sea and the land – two different worlds. Feel honored that Penguin is your guide for your journey of magic and mystery is moving in a new direction.

Many blessings.

Ancestors Speak - A Personal Creed

A quiet place for reflection in Fish Creek Park - by Judith Hirst-Joyeux

(This blog is a reprint of an earlier blog from January 2009.  Enjoy!)

When one thinks of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, one thinks of valour, and of a creed of goodness or honour.  It will not surprise you to find that "Creed" means a "set of beliefs or guiding principles" (from the online dictionary).

History admires knights or anyone who seems to hold fast to principles of integrity and truth.  Why?  Because today, we no longer work with truth and integrity as part of our every day lives in business.  A popular sales tool is called "bait and switch".  The goal is to get the buyer interested in a mythological set of goods, and then actually sell the buyer something quite different.  Where is the integrity in that?  Corporations sell based on making money and producing revenue for shareholders. Shoddy workmanship, falsified lists of ingredients or list of parts, and mis-labelled packages are all part of the "game" to improve the bottom line.

With such examples in our every day lives, it almost seems impossible for an individual to avoid replicating the examples from the workplace.  Buddhists have the five precepts that they live by:

  • Abstain from destroying life
  • Abstain from stealing
  • Abstain from sexual misconduct
  • Abstain from lies
  • Abstain from intoxicating drinks

These five precepts are actually their creed for their way of life - a way of life that has been around since the first day of Buddha.  Many people find these precepts difficult to understand.

Shaman suggest that each of us create our own creed or way of life.  Therefore, when we violate our creed, we immediately "feel" the breach of trust with our self, and we react to repair the damage.

Here are some ideas for a personal creed.

  • I will be good to my body.
  • I will be truthful to myself and others.
  • I will treat all living things with respect.
  • I will honour the rights of all human beings to be the individuals they are with their own Sacred Points of View.
  • I will embrace my faith, and I will trust the Creator's divine guidance.
  • I will see all experiences in my life as ways to grow with lessons to learn.
  • I will strive to be my personal best without comparing my path to others.   (Suggestions from "DANCING THE DREAM" by Jamie Sams)

Being good to your body means the right foods should be imageconsumed!  Picture from Microsoft Clip Art....

  • When each of these ideas is examined, one says, "Why wouldn't I follow these beliefs?"  The interesting answer is that often, in order to work at a job each day, one cannot have many of these beliefs because the beliefs at work conflict with the beliefs of the person.

When one sits in Meditation and asks how to resolve the incongruity of the work place and the person, Angels may answer and simply tell the person to leave their job.  To work at something that does not treat humans with respect is not healing or loving.  When we have a creed of honour, we crave the feeling of Oneness with all things -much like the Shaman of old were seen to be filled with peace and a spirit that directly linked to the Heavens.

The creed that our ancestors lived with was about being in balance, recognizing Nature/Mother Earth as the provider of all food and water and air - simply, the provider of everything.  Corporations with all of their material goods, do not provide everything that we need. Perhaps it is time for all of us to develop a creed.

    What would your creed be?

    Many blessings.

Smudging Has Medical and Spiritual Benefits

Anyone that starts on a spiritual practice learns about smudging with sage, juniper, lavender, palo santo wood, or with frankincense, myrrh, or any other number of products. Many incenses are also pure enough to be good smudging agents. Smudging is a way of clearing the energy or aura around one's self or around others to get rid of negative energy. Anecdotal evidence provides many reasons to keep smudging:

    • The feeling of being lighter or clearer
    • Feeling one can breath better
    • Feeling that the space that was cleared is less dense then areas that are not cleared

However, there is now scientific evidence showing the benefits of smudging.  Because a remarkable 2007 study titled, "Medicinal smoke reduces airborne bacteria," published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, we now know that smudging may be one of the most powerful antiseptic technologies ever discovered.

Here is an excerpt from the article:

We have observed that 1 hour treatment of medicinal smoke emanated by burning wood and a mixture of odoriferous and medicinal herbs (havan sámagri=material used in oblation to fire all over India), on aerial bacterial population caused over 94% reduction of bacterial counts by 60 min and the ability of the smoke to purify or disinfect the air and to make the environment cleaner was maintained up to 24 hour in the closed room. Absence of pathogenic bacteria Corynebacterium urealyticum, Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens, Enterobacter aerogenes (Klebsiella mobilis), Kocuria rosea, Pseudomonas syringae pv. persicae, Staphylococcus lentus, and Xanthomonas campestris pv. tardicrescens in the open room even after 30 days is indicative of the bactericidal potential of the medicinal smoke treatment. We have demonstrated that using medicinal smoke it is possible to completely eliminate diverse plant and human pathogenic bacteria of the air within confined space."

Not only did the burning of medicinal herbs clear aerial bacterial populations by 94% within one hour, but a full day later, the closed room was still effectively decontaminated. Even more amazing, a full month later, seven other pathogenic bacteria in the open room were still non-detectable.  There is evidence that smudging is more effective than Lysol type air purifiers.

    Action Plan

Go out and buy some sage, sweet grass, lavender, or any combination, and give your home a good cleansing.  Post a comment telling the rest of us how it worked for you.

    Many blessings.

Buddha Speaks - We need a Spiritual Life

You may have heard the saying that you need something to believe in.  For some, this means that you need religion.  For others, it means that you need to believe in some guiding principles or creed, to help you live your life to its highest potential.

The spiritual life that we lead keeps us grounded when circumstances become dangerous, or filled with grief, or with uncertainty.  By having guiding principles such as the Buddhist Eight Precepts or Don Miguel Ruiz's Four Agreements, or whatever belief system you have, we keep a light burning that keeps us on a path for our highest good.

We can use our spirituality at work, play, or whenever we need it.  The big thing is that we need to remember to use it.

    Many blessings.

Angels Speak - You Create Your Reality

So often I hear people say, "Why is this happening to me?"  The short answer that no one wants to hear is "because you willed it".  By repeating thoughts, and by validating them by speaking out loud, both  positive or negative energies are created around us.  They attract the very circumstances that we may have been trying to avoid.

The example that comes to mind is a lady who repeatedly said that she wanted to be the center of attention.  Within several years, she had incurable cancer that made her the center of attention of her family and doctors and nurses at the hospital and cancer treatment center.  Obviously, this was not the type of attention that she wanted.  Because she did not put any qualifications around the "dream or vision", the Universe provided the circumstances to grant her wish.

The Angels tell us to be very careful with our thoughts and words for we may get exactly what we asked for.

    Many blessings.

    Welcome March 2018

imageThe season in the North is beginning to change from winter, with its snow and cold, to a milder, lighter time as March rolls in.  We equate March with the return of the sun and look forward to the equinox on March 20 this year.  We are anxious to smell the changes that come with the melting snow, and the rising rivers and rising sap in the trees.

It is a time to start clearing and cleaning out those things that we no longer need/use/want.  It can be physical things or spiritual things.

It is a time for letting go.

    Many blessings.

Spirit Speaks -- The Hardest Lesson–Don't Take It Personally

Have you ever wanted to slap someone because they were being quite rude, or even vile, to you or to others?  When a bully acts out, it is so difficult not to take it personally.  We don't need to.  It is their stuff, their issue, their problem, and not ours.  Yet often we get sucked into the drama.

    Today, let the drama go.

    Many blessings.

Spirit Speaks -- Allow The Universe

We move through space as we go about our daily activities on Planet Earth.  We already have an immediate connection with the Universe.  Yet, we do not realize the connection because we are so busy being isolated in our own ego.

When we work in harmony with the Universe, a team like no other is created.  We can move through life and the routine with grace and ease.  We are kinder, laugh more, and recognize the fragility of life and the blessing we get when our soul has a chance to carry out its passion.

We are now in that place where we can allow the magic of creating something new for ourselves.

    Many blessings.

Spirit Speaks -- What You Seek is Looking For You

The wonderful thing about life is that it really is a long, long, vision quest.  As you search and seek (not hide and seek), you send out energy to the Universe, telling the Universe what you want.  The Universe responds to thoughts, words, and energy, and She does her best to send what you need back to you.  It's really a lot like little kids sending out letters to Santa, outlining their wishes for Christmas presents.

When you receive what you have asked for, the cool phrase that describes the process is "manifesting".  You have manifested your desires.  What are the prerequisites?  That the wish is good for all and harms no one.  Therefore, you cannot wish for people to become ill or to die, or to be harmed.

    Many blessings.

Spirit Speaks - What is Spirituality

There are many definitions of spirituality.  Often, I think, different words are part of the meaning of spirituality.  Words like:

    • Universe
    • Light
    • Service
    • Harmony
    • Compassion
    • Letting go
    • Connectedness to all things

Spirituality is not religion.  It is the relationship with all things, and the support that one gives to all things.

    Many blessings.

Spirit Speaks -- Do Your Thing

imageIt is really difficult to be your own person if people ridicule you by saying things like "you're weird", or, "you are a freak".  People do not like to see you happy or plugged in to doing your own thing. Why? Because it frightens them that you may be doing something better or greater than what they are doing.

To maintain our peace, we must learn to say the hard things to those who try to criticize and "you should" us.  The hard things are sayings like "your way is not my way.  Leave me alone."

Today, decide what you would like to do to be doing "your thing".

    Many blessings.

    Spirit Speaks - Wisdom Comes

When I am asked, "How can I get back into balance with my life?", my answer is, "Go to Nature".

Yes, it really is that simple. Yet, most people seem to want a long, difficult method of rebalancing.  I think it is because, over time, we have learned to believe that everything is complicated and that we need to go through a lot of steps to get to the end goal.  After all, that is what work is.

Being in balance is a natural state, so, it seems to me, that the best place to balance is in Nature.  It doesn't matter what the season is; it only matters that you go out into nature willingly and with an open mind.

My best drive home from work is one where I have time to look at the trees along the river and, if I am lucky, I see the Eagle guarding the river bank.  The sight of the river, trees, Eagle, and what ever else shows up brings me firmly into the present moment so that all that has been floating in my mind clears away.  I feel refreshed.

    Many blessings.

Spirit Speaks - Have a Vision

The interesting thing about a vision is that so many people tell you that it has to be long term and very big.  Really though, all you need to do is have small, easy to accomplish visions that help you to move through your day, and, eventually, you find that you have moved quite a bit in your life.

Let me give you an example. Suppose you plan a birthday party or retirement party.  You need to see what the end result should look like, in your mind.  Then, you take the pieces of that vision, and break them down into the smaller steps like – catering – and then smaller steps about how to get the best caterer.  You can go back to your vision and see what the food looked like.  Then, you make sure that the food order supports that vision.  You can do the same thing with decorations – what do they look like?  Then find them or find a close match to the vision.

Today, try the visioning process to see where it takes you.

    Many blessings.

Spirit Speaks - Just Let Your Light Shine

When someone asks you what your purpose is, tell them that it is to hold the light, and shine in the darkness.  While they may think that you are goofy or weird, you are really telling them the truth.  All of us just need to be beacons of light in the denseness.

    Many blessings.

What Do You Need To Know?

How do you approach troublesome problems with people or with situations that seem to re-occur in your life?  Do you view them as bad people and bad luck? Or, do you ask, "What can I learn from this person or from this situation?"

I read a quote that said, "Our eyes are in the front of our head and not in the back because we need always to look forwards, not backwards". While I think that quote is mostly true, I believe that we sometimes need to stop and take stock of what has been happening to us to see if we can see a pattern.

When we observe a pattern, then we are beginning to have an insight into our life.  For example, is there a situation where a friend has dumped us as a friend, several times in the last three years?  That is a pattern that shows there is an issue of some sort.  One can say that the problem is theirs.  Yet, we are learning that what happens around us and to us is a reflection of us.  So, the issue is also ours.  Now comes the fun part of figuring out the issue and owning it to resolve it.

Today, take a look at some ongoing issues that you have had over time.  How will you resolve them?

    Many blessings.

    Nature - About Stillness

This is a time of great changes, and the stillness is calling to some people.  It is in stillness that we quiet enough to hear the sounds in the silence.  When the sound of traffic, building exhaust fans, and hordes of people talking on their cell phones, disappears – then we reach that place where we can touch the energy of Mother Nature.  Plants, streams, wind in the trees, birds, and insects weave the energy of source.  We feel like we are brushed with a slice of restoring energy.  The stress falls away.  We feel our shoulders and our chest fall open with relief.  We feel grace move into our bodies and we are grateful.

    Many blessings.

Never Give Up On A Dream

If you wonder what your passion is, the quote above tells you so well – it is what you cannot stop thinking about.  It is what you dream about and doodle on pages about.  It is the thing that over powers everything else in your life.

For some people, it is cooking and recipes and food.  For others, it is carving or sewing or showing dogs or, whatever.  The passion is what makes life so much fun.

Today, pay attention to what you think about and see if you can discover what your passion is.

    Many blessings
