Spirit Speaks – Taking A Break

This picture is of the natural bridge created by the rushing waters of the Kicking Horse River just west of Field, BC.  Picture snapped by Judy in June, 2010.

Last week, on Wednesday and Thursday, Roger and I took a break from our regular routine, and traveled to Emerald Lake Lodge, BC, just west of Field, BC, in Yoho National Park.

We chose Emerald Lake because it is one of the peaceful, vortex energies that occur in the Rocky Mountains.  The lake is pristine.

The picture below shows very low cloud cover hovering over the lake.  This is from our cabin.

On Thursday, we travelled to Lake Louise and spent an hour roaming around and taking pictures, and then, we travelled on to Banff, and took the gondola up Sulphur Mountain, and climbed up to the retired Cosmic Ray Research station.

We felt the rays of energy flow through our bodies, and fill us with oneness.  We were at peace!

Here is what Archangel Metatron via James Tyberonn says about the Banff area. This excerpt comes from

And so we return to speak of the grandeur of the Michael Portal in Banff. In the linear years that the channel first visited this magical area, much has quickened. This area is playing an enormous role in the planetary Ascension, in that termed the Cosmic Trigger.

Now, there are many unique and unrecognized aspects to the areas of Banff and Yoho National Parks in Canada. Because of its gravitational placement, tectonics, electromagnetic balance, mineralogy and latitudinal placement there are dense plasmic fields that allow for a more tangible interface with the antimatter twin of the planet Earth.

As such, the Crystalline Waters of the area, the sacred Lakes you know as Lake Louise, Lake Moraine, Emerald Lake, and Lake O’Hara are conscious living entities. But this goes far beyond the ‘Spirit of Place’ that occurs in nature. Because these waters are colloidal with silicate particulate, suspended crystal, these glacier melt waters have a very unique ionic current , which allows for an antimatter charge to occur therein. Bioplasmic life, an Angelic Field, exists within them. Masters, the field of energy that makes Banff quite unique is to a great extent defined by the antimatter plasma that exists in the area, and this has been exponentially increased by the Cosmic Trigger.

We share with you a great Truth that may confuse some of you, and that is that the interface of the Angelic Realm to the human material realm is the antimatter field, and the antimatter plasmic composition of that field is what you term the ‘Parallel Earth’.     Sign up for our free first of the month magazine at

Spirit Animal – Camel Kisses

I dreamed last night that I was trying to hide from a camel.  I was running and hiding because a very big camel was chasing me.  I know that camels spit and bite.  I wasn’t sure why it was so upset with me, I just seemed to know that it was.

Then, just as I thought that I was safe because a parade was going on, this very large, decorated camel comes pushing through the crowd, with a big smile on its face.  She was saying, “Judy, Judy! I have found you!”  I was backed up against a wall of a building, and I had no where to go.

She came over to me and ducked down her head as I turned mine away from her.  And, she kissed me on the cheek, not once but two or three times.  “Thank-you,” she said. “You freed me.”

I have no idea what she was talking about.  She went on to say that I had set her and other camels and some horses and goats free from rustlers several weeks prior.  She said that after I had opened gates and removed hobbles, all of the animals began to run.  A man drove up just as they were leaving and he and I struggled, and he hit me, and I disappeared.  Earlier in the day, Camel had smelled me, and knew that I was alive, and she wanted to thank me.

Camel also gave me a blessing.  Her blessing was that I would be able to go longer than normal periods without water, if I needed to, and she believed that I will need that skill at some point.

She then hurried away.  I was still shaking my head in puzzlement when I woke up.

Spirit Speaks – June 26 2010 Full Moon

What an interesting day this has been!  Early this morning, there was a lunar eclipse, and then this evening, there was a full moon.  And, it was just gorgeous in Calgary.

Seven of us got together and went to do a short ceremony and meditation in Nose Hill Park.

One aspect of Nose Hill Park, Calgary

The feeling around this full moon was one of needing to reconnect and ground with Mother Earth, and to listen to her awakening, and the sounds of the groaning and stretching that she is doing.  There was also a feeling of needing to support her.  She is Nature at its finest, and sometimes, most scary.

The picture that I received in the meditation was that if we do not connect with her, and feel oneness with her, that we will be like the rider thrown off a bucking horse because rider and horse are not compatible.

Even though it was evening, the air was fresh, and the breeze kept the worst of the mosquitoes away.  Our meditation site was peaceful and we could hear the frogs, the crickets, the birds, and the yapping of a coyote.  The vibration of the noise of the insects, birds and animals solidified what we were feeling, an awakening of the innate skills that we have, similar to the animals, to be totally aware of all beings with in an eighth of a mile radius.  We were moving into a state of consciousness or awareness.

This full moon is part of something bigger.  Picture below and write up  comes from  Go and check out the full article.

Excerpt from the site, talking about GRAND CROSS FULL MOON LUNAR ECLIPSE

“The heavenly bodies around our planet are lining up in a giant cross formation and all of  the planets except Neptune play an important role in this dynamic tension.  It will shine a torch upon conflicting energies, opposition and competing priorities, already being played out in personal lives and on the world stage. Numerous astrologers say that this cosmic trigger will be a defining and most critical directional point for humanity and for the planet.”

So, be mindful of all the things that are happening around you because that is what it means to be conscious – it is about paying attention.

Spirit Animal – Mama Mallard Duck

I took the dogs to the park yesterday, and up on the hill, about one half mile from water, was a mother Mallard Duck and her babies.  Magic, always focused on the ball, totally ignored the family.  Sage, however, wanted desperately to run in and  play with all the babies.  Mama Mallard was keeping an eye on him!

Mama Mallard’s message was about trust.  The offers these five definitions of “trust”. Note that they have three other definitions around the law, which are not included here.  Trust is defined as:

  • Firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing.
  • Custody; care.
  • Something committed into the care of another; charge.
  • The condition and resulting obligation of having confidence placed in one: violated a public trust.  b. One in which confidence is placed.
  • Reliance on something in the future; hope.

Along her journey, Mama Mallard was showing the way to humans – the way to trust.  She had her nest several blocks away from the park, under a pine tree in the front yard of a home. She hatched her young, and crossed two streets of busy traffic, trusting that people along the way, would help her keep her young safe, and allow her to get them to water.

In turn, her babies trusted Mama absolutely, even though the sound of cars, buses and dogs (they were traveling through an off leash park) must have scared them silly.

Mama Mallard trusted me to control Sage, and I leashed him, because I could tell by her body language and her random images that she needed me to do that.

Hope is something that we normally attribute to humans.  However, Mama Mallard seemed fully hopeful that all the babies would make it to the pond in Fish Creek Park, and that the journey would be without incident.  She also seemed to have pictures in her mind of the ducklings growing quickly, and getting ready to fly.

Mama Mallard and her determination moved me, first because I was in awe of her, and second, because her actions uplifted me!  I could see life and loving, and peacefulness, and constancy of purpose in her actions.  I could see her as a healing force for all that crossed her path.  Perhaps she will be a Shaman in her next life.

Angels Speak – Be Kind!

Good Advice

Whatever you wish to speak to anybody, let it pass through three gates:-

The Gatekeeper at the first gate asks “Is it true?”

The Gatekeeper at the second gate asks “Is it necessary?”

The Gatekeeper at the third gate asks “Is it kind?”

If what you wish to say to anybody can pass through these three gates then say it. Otherwise, it is better to keep silent!

I am posting this today, to remind each of us to be kind.  My Angels tell me that there is more unkindness to others than we can imagine.  It seems that  greed and meanness are especially prevalent in this time of turbulence.  Fear is typically the underlying reason why people go out of their way to cause trouble for others – fear that if the person does not divert interest in him/her self to someone else, that something dire will happen.

Most conversation in the world is not necessary.  People can get along in happy, companionable silence with themselves, and with one another.  Try being quiet at some point.  The point of being quiet is to get to know one’s self more deeply.  More and more people are going on silent retreats, whether to a retreat center of some sort, or out alone in nature, camping and enjoying their own company.

The Angels say, “Be kind to yourself and to others.  It makes all the difference in your quality of life!”     Sign up for our free first of the month magazine at

How To Make Soup To Serve To Buddha

I bought several heads of romaine lettuce, and then did not need to use them all for salad.  I wondered what to do with them.  I searched for a vegetarian recipe that allowed me to cook and/ or freeze the results.  I found this soup recipe and my family loved it!  I hope that you enjoy it, too.  Let me know whether you liked it, or not, and if you added any variations.

This recipe is also a good way to use fresh garden produce, and freezes well.

                                                        - Judy

Soup To Serve Buddha

Don't let the number of ingredients in this recipe fool you. It is quick, easy and very good. If you have never cooked romaine lettuce, try it some time in any recipe that calls for greens such as
escarole. You will be surprised at how much flavour and texture it has.

• 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
• 1 small onion, chopped
• 3 small carrots, chopped
• 2 small celery ribs, chopped
• 1 red or orange pepper, chopped
• 1 bay leaf
• 4 cloves garlic, minced
• 1/2 small head romaine lettuce, cleaned, dried and cut into pieces about 3 inches long
• 2 cups of vegetable broth
• 6 cups water
• 8 ounces uncooked wide rice noodles

Heat a Dutch oven or casserole over high heat. Add the oil and swirl around to cover bottom. Add the onions, carrots, celery and bay leaf. Sauté until slightly golden and tender, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté one more minute. Add the romaine and sauté another 2 minutes. Add the broth and water. Bring to a boil, scraping up any browned bits that might have accumulated in the bottom of the pan. Add the noodles, and more salt and
pepper. Cook, uncovered, until the noodles are tender, about 7 minutes. (The broth will reduce during that time. If it starts to get too dry, or if you want it more soupy, cover the pot.) Serve immediately or let set for about 5 minutes.     Sign up for our free first of the month magazine at

Buddha Speaks – The Strong Minded Snake

This is an interesting story about a doctor and a poisonous snake.  Buddha told this story to his followers to teach them about determination and perseverance.  It seems that the one who gained the most out of the situation was the snake!

Determination gains Respect

Once upon a time there was a doctor who was an expert at treating snakebites. One day he was called for by the relatives of a man who had been bitten by a deadly poisonous snake.

The doctor told them, "There are two ways of treating this snake bite. One is by giving medicine. The other is by capturing the snake who bit him, and forcing him to suck out his own poison."

The family said, "We would like to find the snake and make him suck the poison out."

After the snake was caught, the doctor asked him, "Did you bite this man?"

"Yes I did," said the snake.

"Well then," said the doctor, "You must suck your own poison out of the wound."

But the strong-willed snake replied, "Take back my own poison? Never! I have never done such a thing and I never will!"

Then the doctor started a wood fire and said to the snake, "If you don't suck that poison out, I'll throw you in this fire and burn you up!"

But the snake had made up his mind. He said, "I'd rather die!" And he began moving towards the fire.

In all his years, the snake bite expert doctor had never seen anything like this! He took pity on the courageous snake, and kept him from entering the flames. He used his medicines and magic spells to remove the poison from the suffering man.

The doctor admired the snake's single-minded determination. He knew that if he used his determination in a wholesome way he
could improve himself. So he taught him the Five Training Steps to avoid unwholesome actions. Then he set him free and said, "Go
in peace and harm no one."

The Buddha Teachings come from different sources. Some stories are changed in the translation.  This translation, I believe, is close to the actual story.     Sign up for our free first of the month magazine at

Spirit Animal – Wasp Buzzes Around

         Picture of a wasp from

Wasp and I have not always been friends!  In fact, I am very allergic to the wasp venom, and when I was stung on my foot, my foot and leg swelled right to the knee, and only a shot from my doctor kept it from getting worse.  The same swelling happened to my hand and arm.  Since we moved to Calgary, Wasp has wanted to live on our house, right beside us, so to speak.  My allergic reaction to their sting made this impossible from my perspective.

Then, last year, I had an epiphany about Wasp.  I learned that they attack as a mirror for what is going on in your life.  I realized that since I moved to Calgary, that Wasp had never stung me.  And then, wasps built a large hive over the door to our tool shed – they seemed to build it over night!  Rather than destroy the nest, I talked my husband into waiting until night time and scraping the hive into a box and sealing it (with air holes).  My plan was the next day to take it into the park, when I walked the dogs, and set the wasps free.  You see, I believe that the world is short on bees and wasps and hornets which help keep the plant world pollinated.

And, that is what I did.  When I first picked up the wasp box, the wasps were so angry!  They buzzed away indignantly!  The dogs kept looking at the box as though they thought it might explode.  So, I hummed to them, and I told them what I was planning on doing. I explained that they would have died if they stayed in our yard or moved to another yard.  Soon they were quiet. We got to the park, and I put them down amongst some trees, and close to wild clover and wild roses.  I used my knife to cut two flaps, and pulled the flaps back with a stick.   Nothing happened.  Then, several wasps crawled up on the flap, and I knew that they would be fine.  The dogs and I walked away with out any wasps coming after us.

Then, yesterday, I had the door open to the deck.  A large hornet flew in and around the family room, and then headed back to the window.  He buzzed against the glass door, trying to get out.  He kept missing the open door.  I finally said to him that he needed help, and I gently cupped my hand around him, pushing him toward the door.  He hit the open space and buzzed off.  I didn’t get stung.  I feel like he knew that I was helping him and had helped others.  Later that day, and today, hornets have come and buzzed over me, and then flown off.  I feel like they gave me a blessing.  And, I am grateful.     Sign up for our free first of the month magazine at

Spirit Speaks – Letting Go

“You cannot understand life and its mysteries as long as you try to grasp it. Indeed, you cannot grasp it just as you cannot walk off with a river in a bucket. If you try to capture running water in a bucket, it is clear that you do not understand it and that you will always be disappointed, for in the bucket the water does not run. To "have" running water you must let go of it and let it run.”   Alan Watts from The Wisdom of Insecurity.

Over the last several months, I have been working on understanding the Buddhist concept of “attachment”, and at the same time, I have been working on understanding all the things that I am attached to. I am finding that attachment comes in many forms.  It does seem to be about being attached to things being a certain way.  If I can get to a point where I accept all things and allow them to be as they are without my ideas of how they should be, then I will be free of attachment.  I hope to get there by letting go of one attachment at a time.

As human beings we all want to be happy and free from misery.  We have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace.  The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as anger and attachment, fear and suspicion,
while love and compassion, a sense of universal responsibility are the sources of peace and happiness.

Spirit Animal – Butterfly on Metamorphosis

The dogs and I were walking along the top of the hill, revelling in the hot sun, shining down on us so beautifully.  The warmth was so welcome after a week of rain.   The dogs were trotting along, doing their thing, and the three of us were simply feeling happy and alive.  As we walked, two butterflies came out of no where, and flew on each side of us, much like an honour guard, holding in the space of happiness.  They stayed with us until we returned to the van.

I thought a lot about the sacredness of what the butterflies did for us – to keep us in that space of happiness and contentment.  I was so grateful.  And then I thought about what the butterflies are about – metamorphosis and change.  And, I started laughing!

You see, meta in the metamorphosis, is actually written “metta”, and means “Loving Kindness”.  If I did not get the connection, Spirit is determined that I understand this concept, because when I was listening to my Buddhist lesson, the Master talked about a colleague of his, Sister Metta, who, as her name suggested, carried loving kindness with her where ever she went.  She was a purveyor of change.

I realised that the Butterflies was moving us (the dogs and me) forward into a stronger alignment with loving kindness. They were fanning us with new energy.  This seems like it is a great gift at this time of Solstice. Butterflies’ actions made me think of this writing by Buddha, "May you be at peace.  May your heart remain open.  May you awaken to the light of your own true nature. May you be healed.  May you be a source of healing to all beings."  The Metta of the Buddha

May each of you have a very transforming week!

Buddha Speaks – A Story About Destiny or, How To Fool People

During a momentous battle, a Japanese general decided to attack even though his army was greatly outnumbered. He was confident they would win, but his men were filled with doubt. On the way to the battle, they stopped at a religious shrine. After praying with the men, the general took out a coin and said, "I shall now toss this coin. If it is heads, we shall win. If tails, we shall lose. Destiny will now reveal itself."

He threw the coin into the air and all watched intently as it landed. It was heads. The soldiers were so overjoyed and filled with confidence that they vigorously attacked the enemy and were victorious. After the battle, a lieutenant remarked to the general, "No one can change destiny."

"Quite right," the general replied as he showed the lieutenant the coin, which had heads on both sides.

This story from Zen Buddhism is quite fascinating.  The principle being described is about leadership, and is similar to the story of how Alexander The Great achieved his greatness. Great leaders inspire faith, even if they act in ways we would not normally think of.   Want a reading?  Pick from one of the choices at

Spirit Animal – Black Squirrel Talks of Bounty

Today, as I was driving Roger to his conference, we saw a big, black squirrel. It run across the road, and before it reached the other side, it stopped and looked at us intently, then hurried away, and up a tree.

I thought about Squirrel, and all the various things that Squirrel is about.  I thought about the Proverb, “Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes”.  And then, I wondered why a Squirrel would be blind.  The Squirrel that crossed the road was not blind.  It seemed to see exceptionally well.  A picture of a peanut, and then a chunk of bread crossed my vision.  Squirrel was connecting to me across the ethers.  I made my husband peanut butter on seed muffins for a snack later in the morning.

Now that we were on the same frequency, Squirrel sent me a series of rapid images that may be translated as a message.  She was saying that where we live is soon going to be filled with bounty.  This is a change from the historical, dry, arid conditions that Calgary has had.  With the rain, all things are growing lush, even gardens that looked to be drowned out at one point.  Squirrel says to get ready to deal with our bounty.  Find ways to use it and share it.  Squirrels have a history of hiding what they find, concerned only for their own well being.  She tells us that the only way humanity will continue is if we learn to share because most humans do not know how to forage like the squirrels forage.

Spirit Animals – Disappearing in the Gulf

We have now been hearing for about five weeks about the oil spill in the Gulf of New Mexico, from the BP oil well that is still pumping oil.

I wondered what the area involved would look like.  I found this picture.  It makes me feel sad to look at it, and to see that all the sea life in this area, and any of the wildlife that is on the land touching the area because they will be harmed by this blackness.

I was listening to the news, and it seems that something quite similar happened back in 1979.  An oil rig gushed into the Gulf.  Thirty or so years later, it has happened again.

The good news is that the Gulf, and the marine, plant and wild life did recover.  Nature is truly resilient, and humans are no less resilient!  We too can recover from what ever blackness or darkness affects us.

It is almost like the blackness in the water is a reflection of the blackness in the air, the ashes, caused by the volcano erupting in Iceland.  Both situations will have long term effects, and both situations will be overcome.

There is a certain peace in knowing that everything comes back to balance.   Want a reading?  Pick from one of the choices at

Spirit Speaks – You are of the Earth

Buddhists believe that every human contains four elements, Earth, Water, Air, and Fire.  These four elements make up our physical body, and allow us to feel the energies associated with each of them.  We will talk about those energies in a minute.  What is clear, is that these four elements can help us to stay grounded.  However, it seems that many people choose to be ungrounded, that is, they feel “spaced out”.  And rather than try to change this feeling, the individual seems to encourage the feeling.
          This great picture comes from
When we feel “heavy” when we are walking or running,  or “sleepy” or “full” after a meal, then we are feeling the effects of our Earth energy.  The Earth energy is working to pull our bodies – physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual – back into the confines of our physical center.  Sometimes our bodies are not pulled back in all the way, so we feel “off center”. It is our Earth energy that allows us to taste and to touch.  When we feel solid, or stiff, or smooth, or hardness, then we are using our Earth element.
When we feel constrained and our movement seems stiff, or we seem without fluidity, then we know our Water element is blocked.  When we feel sticky and emotional and want to cry for no reason, or if we feel depressed, we are feeling Water energy.  Congestion and phlegmy coughs tell us that our Water energy is out of balance.  If we see people in need, our Water energy cries out to support them, to be in service.  It is our Water energy that allows us to see and to make assumptions or judgements around situations.
We know that when we hear things and feel the mental energy of our brain working that the Air Element is in play. Or, when we have visions, or words come to us unbidden, we may find that our Air Element is changing, and with the change, bringing us new information.  Those with a strong air element like to be entertained and to solve puzzles and quizzes.  When we are caught up in our Air element, we float on “cloud nine”.  Playing, pushing, pulling, and all movement are showing us how we use the Air element.
The Fire Element shows up as heat in our body, as passion and anger.  When somebody wrongs us, or we feel something is unfair, then we tend to “burn up” with rage or indignation.  We use the heat we carry to show love and affection, to show protection.  Healers talk about the amount of heat that is generated when they are working with a client. Attraction heats up with the Fire element.
We have all these great sensations that tell us so much about our bodies and that show us that we are in the present moment.  Then, we lose this information by getting into our mind, into our ego, and analysing the information so that the info of the present moment becomes useless.
If you have some time today, meditate on the Nature of your body, and how the Earth changes may affect how your body feels in the Earth element.  Meditate on the Oneness, on finding peace in the present moment, and on the Ancestors, who have already experienced the circle of life.  Find a prayer that helps you relax, and that slows down your mind.  Allow yourself to be here, now, in the present.   Want a reading?  Pick from one of the choices at

Spirit Animal – Shark Swims In With A Message

Three different nights, I have dreamed of sharks.  I realized that they had a message for me, and that I needed to “dive in” and figure out what it is that Shark wants to say.

Sharks are by nature, loners.  They swim by themselves and only congregate when drawn by the smell of blood.  If Shark is in a frenzy, it will kill other sharks without consciousness.

Picture of a bull shark – the type of shark that appeared in my dreams.

Shark’s message covers several things.

  • Spend time alone and you will not become anxious or irritable.  Spend a lot of time with others that you have no respect for, and you will want to “bite off someone’s head”.
  • Be aware that you are growing ever more sensitive to smells (Sharks smell one drop of blood in an ocean of water), and to vibrations and changes in vibrations. Sharks are able to determine where fish are by the vibration they send through the water when the fish is swimming.
  • Shark is not able to float in water, and therefore shares this knowledge by telling us that we cannot float through life – we must keep moving or we will get run over, or drown. it is very simple.
  • Water is often equated to the depths of emotion.  Shark can swim to great depths, and can also swim quite close to shore.  With Shark’s guidance, we can navigate the deepest, darkest emotions, and look at them dispassionately.

May you enjoy “swimming with the sharks” in your dreams tonight.   Want a reading?  Pick from one of the choices at

Spirit Speaks – The Truth of Life is in Our Hands

I was thinking about our hands and how we use our hands in healing sessions – we use them to comfort, to support, to transmit energy, to caress, to tap, and even to hold back energy.  Our hands often act, it seems, of their own accord.  This means that they act instinctively, and that they do not act from the brain.  Think about the number of times that you have said one thing and that your hands have done another thing – a variation on the right and left hand not knowing what the other is doing.  In fact, sometimes our brain does not know what our hands are doing.
Think about the times you are happy.  You will clap your hands.  You don’t think about it, you just do it.  Or, if you are sad, or excited, or extremely moved, you may fold your hands over your heart.  If you are scared, you may protect yourself by placing your hands over your stomach or belly; or, you may wrap your arms around your self and and pat your arms to comfort yourself.
When someone is hurting, we instinctively put our hands on their back or their head or their shoulders and stroke the person to comfort them.  We use our hands to wave at people, and show them we are happy to see them.  We even use our hands to salute to show honour to people.  When we mean no harm, we show our hands, palm up.
Nature gave us five digits on our hands.  Five is the number for getting things done.  The thumb is almost useless by itself. However, when we use it with the four fingers, we have a tool that allows us to dig, to pick fruit and vegetables, to make meals, to bake, to build, to sew, to create, and to love.
The hands, then become interesting because they will always show us, and others, exactly what is going on in our physical and emotional body.  And, that physical and emotional feeling may be quite different than what our mental body (mind, ego) is saying.  The hands show our gratitude to Creator, and gratitude to those around us, by the service that they do for our selves and for others.  Our hands are about life. The truth of our life is in our hands. And, that is a good thing.   Want a reading?  Pick from one of the choices at

Spirit Animal – Elk On Aggression

I was a bit surprised when Elk came through and wanted to talk about aggression.  And, then someone sent me this picture of Elk acting in an aggressive manner.  Very curious by now, I looked up the definition of aggression from the Merriam Webster dictionary.  It says:

1 : a forceful action or procedure (as an unprovoked attack) especially when intended to dominate or master
2 : the practice of making attacks or encroachments; especially : unprovoked violation by one country of the territorial integrity of another
3 : hostile, injurious, or destructive behaviour or outlook especially when caused by frustration

I then asked Elk what its message was to me and to others.  Elk was very clear – all aggression is against the first law  - harm no one.  Remember, says Elk, that aggression and defence are two very different courses of action.  Defence is about keeping one’s self and one’s family safe.

Elk went on to say that the animals have been noticing a disturbing trait in humans, that the humans are getting more aggressive to each other and to animals and birds.  When hunting for sport should be decreasing with increasing consciousness, the number of hunters remains constant, and for some species, the number of hunters is increasing.

Elk asks that all humans look at aggression and meditate on reducing aggression across the planet.   Want a reading?  Pick from one of the choices at

Spirit Speaks - New Moon Meditation for June 2010 With The Green Man

2010 06 green man

Last night, we held a New Moon Meditation evening at our house, and nine people made up the circle.

The Meditation was guided by The Green Man, and dealt with many events in Nature.

One of the meditations was about celebrating all the animals, fish, invertebrates, birds, plants, and all manner of creepy crawlers that inhabit the Gulf of Mexico.  The celebration was for the sacrifice they made to open a space for more love in the Western world, and to open up the heart chakras of those who have closed hearts.  The meditation was long and quite moving.  We opened up a space and gathered in each animal, bird, etc. by saying their name – pelican, squid, and so on.  The meditation ended with a beautiful picture of bright lights splashing up into the sky, paving the way for the moon to appear again.

What was so magical about this meditation was the grace and the beauty of each animal or bird or fish that came into the circle.  The sense of great peace that surrounded these beings was so filled with grace, it makes it difficult to think that we humans could be any more graceful.  Each of us was given an understanding that the sacrifice was to help each being in the Gulf waters to further their own soul journey.  It was also a lesson to each of us that everything that happens to us is to move us along in our soul’s journey, and that each action is a choice that we make.  Life is not forced on us.

The rest of the evening took we, the participants, through two more experiences with Nature.  One experience showed us how to bond with plants and trees because we can share energy with them, and we do not need to feed off energy from other humans.  This meditation, too, was filled with profound love and life, and took us to different places where the trees grow.

The Green Man worked with the Angels of Karma to clear us of all cords and hooks that are in our energy bodies.  When this meditation was complete, we felt that our karmic energy had been shifted, and that Spirit had smiled on us all, and helped us shift forward in our connection with our highest self.

If you have been feeling unsettled and discontent, try sitting in meditation with The Green Man, to see what  wisdom he can bring to you about your situation.  He is very gentle and loving to work with.

Buddha Speaks – Nature’s Beauty

Often, we go through life looking for perfection, especially in Nature.  What we miss is the beauty of all that surrounds us because we are looking for something that is our perception, and perhaps, not the truth of Nature.

I love this short story that illustrates the beauty in Nature, and how we must accept all of Nature to be in keeping with the harmony of the Earth.

Nature's Beauty

A priest was in charge of the garden within a famous Zen temple. He had been given the job because he loved the flowers, shrubs, and trees. Next to the temple there was another, smaller temple where there lived a very old Zen master. One day, when the priest was expecting some special guests, he took extra care in tending to the garden. He pulled the weeds, trimmed the shrubs, combed the moss, and spent a long time meticulously raking up and carefully arranging all the dry autumn leaves. As he worked, the old master watched him with interest from across the wall that separated the temples.

When he had finished, the priest stood back to admire his work. "Isn't it beautiful," he called out to the old master. "Yes," replied the old man, "but there is something missing. Help me over this wall and I'll put it right for you."

After hesitating, the priest lifted the old fellow over and set him down. Slowly, the master walked to the tree near the center of the garden, grabbed it by the trunk, and shook it. Leaves showered down all over the garden. "There," said the old man, "you can put me back now."

Spirit Animal – Lion – On Love

One of my friends sent me this picture.  I looked at it, and thought it was great, and then deleted it.  Then, when I was “Stumbling”, I came across the picture again.  Again, I thought it was great, and hit the button to move past it.  Everything moved, and then shifted back to the picture.  Ah!  I realized that I was being given this picture for a reason.

I sat with the picture and meditated.  I used the mantra, Loving Kindness, to relax and move into that place of peace and stillness.  I was hovering in that place where thoughts come up to you, and you simply wave them away, without really seeing them.  And then a much larger, dark figure walked into my meditation silence.  He coughed to draw attention to himself.  I looked at him, and said, “Can I help you?”

The Lion moved into my consciousness, fully, and said he had some information for me.  I settled back and said that I would be glad to hear it.  He began speaking.

“We often hear in the great whispers that go around through the air, that you two leggeds do not think that we love.  Love, as we understand it, is when you totally commit to protect and to honour those charges around you; that you realize that without them, you would feel lost and perhaps incomplete.  We lions love absolutely in the nature of our kind.

We are different than two leggeds because we do not intentionally plan treachery – to hurt or to kill – the ones we love.  WE work to protect them.

And, so it is that we are different.  We say to you, “judge us not as dumb beasts”.”

Spirit Animal – Dream Time Visits from Badger and Bear

I had this dream on Sunday night.  It was very real to me, and still makes me think about the role of badger and bear.  It feels like a dream with a good outcome.  What do you think?

I become aware that I am in a dream and I can see that I am wearing a robe, with a grey over robe or cape on top of the robe, both are ground length and made of linen. I am male, and six four, and about forty years old. I am a traveler, and full time spy. However, I am not really sure who my employer is. I look around, and I seem to be outside a small farm house, in a small farm yard, somewhere outside of Rome. I walk around the house, and wonder if it is my house. As my over robe blows out behind me, a small brown chicken tries to get in under my cloak. I ask the chicken what it is afraid of. It ducks its head, and tries to stay very close to me. I walk around the house's next corner, and find that there are stairs going up to a doorway. At that moment, a flock of chickens, about twenty or so, come running and flying around the house, behind me. They are frightened.

They fly up on the roof of the house and on the railing of the porch.  All except one gets off the ground. This last one is being chased by a badger.   image

The badger looks at me, and then grabs the chicken by the neck and bites. I hear the bones crunch. I see the blood spurt out.

The badger chews a little at the neck, and then drops the chicken, and seems quite satisfied. I know that badgers are quite dangerous and I feel that it might come after me next. I slowly back away from the badger, thinking that if I break eye contact, it will charge at me. I hear this big "Wahhhhh!" noise and wonder where the child is. I don't want to look around because I do not want to break eye contact with the badger.

A small force hits my leg. I look down, expecting to see a child. Instead, there is a small black bear hugging my leg. He would be about three to four months old and about twenty to twenty- five pounds. He acts like I should pick him up. I don't. I have forgotten the badger, so I now look back to where it sits. It is closer to me now, and is sitting up on his back legs, with his paws up front, much like a begging dog. Badger looks satisfied, and almost seems to be smiling.

I call out to see if anyone is around. I get nothing but silence.  That seems right because the farm feels deserted for the moment.

Perhaps the farmer and his family have gone to the village. I decide that I will follow the path that seems to lead in the direction of the village. I hurry away from the farm, down the path. I am puzzled because I did not know that Italy had black bears. I wonder what it is doing at the farm. The path I am following actually is so old that it is rutted into the ground, and my feet are going below ground level as I walk. The rut is about seven or eight inches deep. I look at the path ahead as it wanders up a hill, along side a pasture. I see grapes on a far slope. I hear a noise behind me. I glance back. The bear cub is trotting along behind me, in the rut of the path. The badger, who seems to be encouraging it, is walking up on the ground beside the path. I stop and turn around, and ask them what they think they are doing. I tell them that they cannot follow me. I tell them to leave. Badger sits back and seems to get a lighter colour - not quite white, however, more silver than dark fur. The cub looks at me with wide eyes, and "Wahhhs" again. I turn and begin to walk faster.

I glance over my shoulder, the bear cub is also moving faster, and whining with exertion. I wonder when he last ate, and I wonder how I will feed him. I stop. I accept that these animals are now my charges. I walk back and pick up the baby bear. I reach to give badger a pet, and as I reach for him, the dream dissolves, and they are gone. I wake up.

Spirit Animal – Duck – Sink or Swim

Often, in life, we are given situations where we must choose to either move forward and make a change, or where we choose to let life circumstances defeat us.

Several days ago, someone that I love dearly received chastising about a situation that he was involved in.  The chastisement seemed out of proportion to the seriousness of the situation.  It reminded me of the put downs that many of us received from our parents (fathers) in our early lives.  The tone of the chastisement was along the lines of “how can you be so stupid”, and “I am so much smarter than you”; put downs that we now all realize are about power and not about any constructive coaching or team building.

As I was thinking through the situation, and feeling thankful that I was no longer in that corporate situation, I saw the picture below, from Spirit, and realized that Duck had a comment for me.

The comment was “sink or swim”!  From the moment that Duck is born, she must make her way through the grass down into the water.  She is not safe on the land from Fox, Hawk, Coyote, Snake, Racoon, Weasel, or even Cat or Dog.  When she gets in the water, she is not safe from Turtle, Fish, Eagle, or other predators.  Yet, she swims! She does not give up.  To escape those who would diminish her, she simply swims faster until the time comes when she can fly, and then she flies faster.

Life, Duck says, is about getting on, and not getting down.  Life is about finding the flow, and staying in the current, and keeping moving.  The nature of things is about moving and change, and never giving up. Life is about loving one’s self enough to keep trying.

And that, says Duck, is the meditation for today – sink or swim.

Spirit Speaks – The Spiritual Quest for Light Workers for the week of June 7, 2010

The energies of change grow ever stronger around the planet.  Little upsets in people’s lives signify the change on an emotional level.  Numerous postings on websites – about Earth changes, about changes in the sky, about UFOs, and about physical damage to the Earth – show us that this is a time of mental change as well.  The Old Ones, our Ancestors, believed that balance meant that everything happened in fours. Therefore, the Spiritual change is also looming ahead of us (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual).

I wondered what Light Workers should be questing for this week.  I asked the oracle, “The Ancestors’ Path”, written by Jonn Lavinner and published by Inner Ocean Publishing, Inc.  The directions are very wise!

1.  The dice cast is EARTH over TURTLE (Path 19, called “The Great Mother”)

Vision – Earth above Turtle

Great Mother nourishes all her children.  The elders do not try to lead.  Receive from her.

East – Beginning of the quest – In the beginning, feed all the newborn.  Bring nourishment (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual).  All new things need much nourishment in the beginning.

South – Joy of the quest – As an infant grows, it receives love and nourishment from its mother.  It has no worries. It is care-free.

West – The purpose of the quest – Care for those in need.  Feed the hungry.  (Currently, in addition to the many starving in third world countries, we also have tragedies that have struck recently where earthquakes, volcanoes, and hurricanes have left people without shelter, and without food and water, in some places.  This same devastation is hitting the animals, and now the oil flood in the Gulf of New Mexico is putting extreme pressure on the ocean and the animals.  The animals, too, need to be fed.)

North – The danger of the quest – When the young are weaned, they become independent, and go against what they have learned. For example, humans have not cared for Mother Earth; they are destroying parts of her so she cannot support man and animals and plants.

Below – The resources of the quest -  All bounty has come from the Earth.  Large companies, through greed, have tried to change what is natural, and turn the focus away from Mother Earth.

Above – The Spirit world’s influence – all happens with unconditional love and the Heavens will care for all, and serve abundance to those that work with the Heaven’s by their actions, and not by what they say.

The Heart – Your place in the quest – Physical needs are yours for the asking.  Ask!

Spirit Animal – Rabbit Says “Hop to it!”

Picture from

I was driving home from the grocery store, traveling down Deer Ridge Drive, when a big rabbit hopped across the road, slowly, and stopped and looked at me.

I said, “What the heck?”

Rabbit paused on the curb, and then hopped up onto a lawn and turned and looked at me.

What I heard was - “Hop to it!”  And then I heard something like, “Feed us!”

I almost hit an oncoming car because I was trying to watch rabbit in my rear view mirror.  I was a bit confused about what was going on.  I reviewed what I had been doing.  I just finished getting tomato plants and then grocery shopping.  This seemed important.  I put my thoughts on hold so I could drive with awareness.

As I carried in my groceries, I wondered about the phrase “feed us”.  I let go of my conscious mind/ego, and let my thoughts drift until I found Rabbit.  Here is the conversation.

“You did get my message.  I broadcast it so often and most humans do not hear it.  Humans are so odd!  They hurry around like we rabbits do, and do not seem to have time to talk, to hear, to learn. We rabbits hop with purpose – to find food, to find shelter and safety from Hawk and Coyote, and all the dogs and cats around.  We hop to mate, to play, to honour the One That Feeds Us (Earth).

Rabbits fend for ourselves. We watch you, and you humans do not seem to know how to care for your selves.  We have favourite patches of grass or shoots, or small trees that we love to eat.  You do not.  Why is it that you do not have patches of earth by your lairs to grow food in? (She means gardens.)  Why do you carry stuff that smells like food in funny skins? (She means bags.)

When you eat the same foods as us, and throw out what you do not eat, you feed us, and the other birds and animals.  When you eat funny foods that are not real, you cannot feed us.  We need you to feed us with what you have left over because this is the circle of food and of life.  With the funny foods and not water, (Not water is what Rabbit calls soft drinks and juice.) you humans put a funny feel (vibration) in the ground.  This funny feel affects the land and the greater mind (Oneness).  We cannot talk to you like we used to do.

We tell you to go out and walk on the land, to plant gardens, to feel the changes that are coming.  We say, “dance in the moonlight like rabbit does”, and you will feel whole.

Spirit Animals – Dog – My New Best Friend Is A Man

Sometimes we hear stories about animals and we shake our heads in wonderment and often, in disbelief.  This is one story that will have your head shaking, and, at the same time, leave you with a big smile on your face.

First, a stray dog gets scared as he runs through an elderly couple’s yard.  Second, stray dog tries to jump a page wire fence, and then gets hung up in the wire.  When I say hung up, I mean upside down.  Third, the house owners call the police to come and help them. Fourth, the policeman films his work in freeing the dog.

This short movie is the story of the rescue of the dog.  Watch it to the end.

Spirit Animal – Sheep Says “Count Your Blessings”

Picture of sheep comes from

Last night, I could not sleep!  I tossed and turned, and I tried all of the different mediations, breathing exercises, and mind calming techniques that I knew. (And, I know a lot!)  At 3:00pm, I finally tried counting sheep.

I saw a path, with me sitting on the fence, counting the sheep as the sheep filed by in single file.  I was on sheep number 15, and waiting for sheep number 16 to appear.  She walked up the path, and stopped and looked at me, and began to talk.

“Why are you sitting on that fence counting sheep?  Why don’t you come and walk with us out to the pasture.  Why don’t you enjoy nature instead of simply sitting perched like a bird?  Does counting sheep really make you feel sleepy?  Don’t we all look lovely and white? We get better colours when we walk in dream time with people.  Yes, you are dreaming – you are actually in that in between state, between true awake and true sleep.”

And she paused for a breath and started again.

“There are four hundred and forty-three sheep in this flock.  Our job is to help people fall asleep.  We all signed up for this task because it is one of great service, and by being in service, we sheep are all allowing our souls to evolve – some of us faster than the human souls, I might add.  This is a fun job. We see all sorts of people around the world that have this particular past time.  We do not often get to Africa, China, Russia or South America.  We used to be confined to Europe, and then to parts of North America.  I have been to the Alps, the Andes, the Rocky Mountains, the Appalachian Mountains, and even to the depths of the Pacific and the Atlantic to work my special brand of magic sleep!

You humans are so funny.  Sometimes we have a good chuckle at your experiences that cause you not to sleep.  Everything has happened before, and everything will happen again.  Everything that happens to you has happened to one of us in the flock, at one  time.  What we dream time sheep have learned to do is to look at each of you humans and your experiences, and then bless you and your experience.  That blessing is actually part of the magic that we work.  When you are feeling low, we suggest that you count your blessings.

Do you know that a blessing is anything that benefits you?  It may be food, water, a hug, finding a penny, listening to music or meeting someone incredibly gifted like all of us sheep.   If you move through the blessings, and count them, you will find that you have so many in a day, that you simply take them for granted.  It is the nature of this world to provide you with blessings.  Blessings are bestowed out of love.  Why don’t you try counting your blessings now?  Sleep child!”

I don’t remember anything after that until my dog, Magic, woke me up this morning.

Spirit Animal – Giraffe Gives a “Heads Up!”

Several nights ago, I had a dream where Giraffe came in to speak to me.

First, the image that I had was of me standing on a path outside a very tall fence.  I was not sure where I was.  Then as I looked around, I realized that I must be in a type of zoo or animal compound. Where in the world it was, I am not sure.  Then I heard, “Heads up!”

I knew that I needed to look up.  Standing so that their legs were almost like part of the fence, were three giraffes.  Two were quite tall, and one was shorter by several feet.  They grinned down at me.  Then one leaned over the fence and putting his face right against mine, sniffed me.  He popped his head back up, and said, “She smells okay.”

  Giraffe picture from

imageI was a bit taken aback.  I think I always smell good except when I have finished a hard work-out.  His mate popped her head over, and kissed the top of my head.  I felt tingles.  I looked up and asked what I was doing here.  Madame Giraffe said, “We called you because you don’t write about us very often, and yet you love us, and send us great thoughts and blessings.  You worry about how we are making out in the wild, and what we will do when the big changes come.”

She was right – I do worry about Giraffes and Elephants, and all kinds of animals.  I did not realize that they were picking up on that energy.

Madame Giraffe went on to say that people need to pay more attention to the giraffe.  They make great guides.  They see things from quite high up, and see patterns in the way people move and the way energies move.  If Giraffe is invited in as a Spirit Animal, it will tell you when there are good energies around you and where to walk/drive to avoid negative energy patterns.  Giraffe moves without getting caught up in the drama of petty things.  Giraffe would like to see each of us avoid drama, and move more in an isolated fashion as does Giraffe.

Giraffe’s energy is constantly cleansed by the trees where Giraffe spends much time grazing at the tree tops.  Her advice is to find a tree and sit in it, and enjoy the cleansing effect of the tree’s leaves vacuuming all the unhealthy energy from around you.

According to Giraffe, most people have a short sightedness when it comes to seeing around them.  Giraffe asks you to try to see higher and farther, to see beyond the limits of your mortal eyes.  If you have trouble doing this, ask Giraffe for assistance.

Giraffes says to stop trying to minimize life.  She says, “Stick your neck out once in a while.”  Life is not about being completely safe – it is about experiencing life and taking chances and growing.

Ancestors Speak – June 1 2010

June is the time of hot sun, growing, and enjoying.  Our Ancestors scheduled several celebrations that lead up to Summer Solstice, generally celebrated on June 20, 21, or 22, depending on where you are in the world.

One of the celebrations, held June 1st or 2nd, was a gratitude celebration that honoured the Goddess of Growing Things, and the Sun God for helping things grow.  The day and night was filled with fun, thanks, and love.  In fact, many couples married on this day.  And, now couples marry all through the month of June.

Nature gets in the act because so many birds lay their eggs, and even hatch them during June because this gives the young a chance to grow to maturity before fall, and the cold, set in.  If the bird is migratory, then the young have time to prepare for the flight.

This year, the Ancestors urge us to be more prepared for the fall and for the cold.  They say that the summer will be short, and that the cold will come early. In Calgary, we still have cold, although we have not had snow since the weekend.  Perhaps it is time to stock up on staple goods, flashlights and batteries, or even candles and matches.  Set aside a store of water.  Being prepared is not just a Boy Scout motto.

This picture of Maligne Lake was taken by Judy Hirst in August 2009.  At this point, the summer is almost over in the high Rockies.  Snow has started to fall.
