Spirit Speaks - Ask, And Get Out Of The Way

Quite often, we decide that we want something. And, because we all have been taught to visualize what we want very specifically, we put in lots of detail about what we want, and how we should get it.  When we do this, we do in fact, get in the way of the Universe so that she cannot deliver what we need immediately.

Roger and I had this situation in the last several weeks when we have been lining up contractors for renovations to our house.  I finally got to the point where I said, “Enough! Universe, you know what we want.  Please bring it to us.”

The next day, the following pictures arrived from my friend Leslie.  I believe the Universe is saying, “I heard you.  Here’s some proof that I deliver.”

I am grateful!

Angels Speak - No Complaints Policy

image

I was berating myself because I was not getting lots of things done around the house after work.  The problem was that I come home so tired that I have little energy for anything beyond making supper and doing one other thing before I must go to bed.

The Angels popped in on Friday and told me to have a “No Complaints” policy with myself.  They assured me that all was well and that all was on schedule.  They told me, too, that I should not worry about writing my blog.  The writing will happen when it is time.

I felt great relief and shrugged off the guilt.

Try it.  It feels great!

Spirit Animal – Muskrat

image

The dogs and I came back from the river.  I was marvelling at seeing three muskrat in the channel, all of them up on a rock or on land, cheerfully chewing away on grass roots and watching the world go by on the walking path.

The message that came through from Muskrat was about change.  It was saying that we will have to find new ways to work together as things change.  Muskrat was at the river to forge a bond with Beaver.  They decided to work together for this year and the next to regain some habitable marsh land for both species.  They will work to help each other by watching out for predators, watching for the ranger man, and keeping alert for good trees to build with.

Muskrat talked about how difficult it is to find a permanent place to live.  They plan that they will stay in one place no more than one full passage of the seasons (one year).  If they can stay longer, then they are happy.

They wish each of you a safe place to live.

Blessings,

Judy

Buddha Speaks - Things Simply Happen

                 image

Things simply happen—we do our rituals, we travel about, we bear children, live among them, and die. We can’t change these facts, but if we cultivate awareness that everyone, everywhere has similar experiences of life and death, it can take the urgency out of our responses, opening a space for equanimity to arise.  - Manjusura, “The View From Above”

I read this passage and felt the “rightness” of it.  We all have our own belief systems, and our beliefs carry us through the dark times.  Everyone has dark times and it seems that we often forget that others have similar experiences.  It is the magic of life that allows us to have similar paths.  From this, we learn new ideas and beliefs.  We grow.  Our mind expands.  We live life more easily.

Spirit Animal - Robin Sings It Is Home

                                              image

This week, our mountain ash tree was filled with robins.  Robin, who has nested in our yard for ten years, hopped from the branch it was on, into the air, and settled on the back of the deck bench, where Roger and I often sit.  She and her mate, who joined her, sang about the long journey they completed, and how happy they were to be back home.  She sang of storms – winds that forced them to shelter, and rain, and snow.  She sang about being blown off course and having to find their way back to the right place to come home.

Robin sang of the abundance of being at home.  Food is provided and there is safety for them.  She sang of all the reasons that each person in the world needs a home to return to.  She said that wandering is exciting for a while, however, there is a place that holds one’s heart, and that we yearn to return to.

There was a wisdom to her song that was a celebration of all life.  We felt very lucky to have her sing the song to us.

Blessings,

Spirit Animal - Fox Sits In The Shadows

                       image

Fox sits quietly by the edge of the clearing, in the shadows, and waits for me to be aware of her.  She has been a regular visitor for some time.  Today, she comes to speak to me about working in the background – the shadow place as it is often called – because in the shadows, you can disguise who you are and why you need to do things a certain way.

Fox has had experience at misdirecting and at shape shifting.  When you have young, it is the one way that she can easily protect them.  She urges us to spend less time on the internet, and in sharing our private lives.  She asks us to be outside more.

She sends us blessings.

Spirit Animal - Dove Returns

                                             image

We have lived in this house now for almost ten years (it will be ten in May).  Each year, Dove and her mate come and settle in or around our yard.  This year, they returned at the beginning of the week.  They both came and sat on the back of the seat on our deck, and sang us a song to tell us that they were back.

Dove sang of the promise of home, of having good food and green grass and great weather.  She sang of sadness to come, and that we would move past this time.  Her refrain was that love was strong and would protect us from what comes.

When she was done, she and her mate both flew away and returned about ten minutes later with twigs.  They started to build a nest in our pine tree.  They sing of contentment as they do this, and we feel the peace.

Spirit Speaks - On Being Careful

Ever since I was able to read, I have loved fables and stories that offer wisdom.  Although the following story comes from Buddhist teachings, it has a timelessness of wisdom around being careful.

Enjoy the tale!

                                image

A Prince of Monkeys (Carefulness)

Once upon a time there was a cruel monkey king who ruled in the Himalayas. All the monkeys in his band were his own wives and children. He was afraid that one of his sons might grow up and take over as king. So it was his policy to bite each son just after he was born. This altered him so he would be too weak to ever challenge his father.

A certain wife of the monkey king was pregnant. Just in case the unborn one was a son, she wanted to protect him from the cruel policy of her husband. So she ran away to a forest at the foot of a distant mountain. There she soon gave birth to a bright little baby boy monkey.

Before long this baby grew up to be big and strong. One day he asked his mother, "Where is my father?" She told him, "He is king of a band of monkeys living at the foot of a far-off mountain. That makes you a prince!"

The prince of monkeys said, "Kindly take me to my father." His mother said, "No my son, I am afraid to do so. Your father bites all his sons in order to weaken them for life. He is afraid one of his sons will replace him as king." The prince said, "Don't be afraid for me, mother. I can take care of myself." This gave her confidence, so she agreed and took him to his father.

When the cruel old king saw his strong young son, he thought. "I have no doubt that when this my son grows stronger he will steal my kingdom from me. Therefore I must kill him while I still can! I will hug him, pretending it is out of love for him. But really I will squeeze him to death!"

The king welcomed his son, saying, "Ah, my long lost son! Where have you been all this time? I have missed you dearly." Then he took him in his arms and hugged him. He kept squeezing harder and harder, trying to squeeze the life out of him! But the prince of monkeys was as strong as an elephant. He hugged his father right back. He squeezed him tighter and tighter, until he could feel the old king's rib bones starting to crack!

After this terrible greeting, the monkey king was even more terrified that one day his son would kill him. He thought, "Nearby there is a pond possessed by a water demon. It would be easy to get him to eat my son. Then my problems would be over!"

The monkey king said, "Oh my dear son, now is the perfect time for you to come home. For I am old and I would like to hand over my band of monkeys to you. But I need flowers for the coronation ceremony. Go to the nearby pond and bring back two kinds of white water lilies, three kinds of blue water lilies and five types of lotuses."

The prince of monkeys said, "Yes my father, I will go and get them."

When he arrived at the pond, he saw that there were many kinds of water lilies and lotuses growing all over it. But instead of jumping right in and picking them, he investigated carefully. He walked slowly along the bank. He noticed there were footprints going into the pond, but none coming out! After considering, he realised this was a sure sign the pond was possessed by a water demon. He also realised his father must have sent him there to be killed.

He investigated further, until he found a narrow part of the pond. There, with great effort, he was able to jump from one side clear across to the other. In the midst of his leap he reached down and picked flowers, without actually getting into the water. Then he jumped back again, picking more flowers. He continued jumping back and forth, collecting lots of flowers.

Suddenly the water demon stuck his head up above the water. He exclaimed, "In all the time I've lived here I have never seen anyone, man or beast, as wise as this monkey! He has picked all the flowers he wanted, without ever coming within the grasp of my power, here in my kingdom of water."

Then the ferocious demon made a path for himself through the water and came up onto the bank. He said, "My lord, king of monkeys, there are three qualities that make a person unbeatable by his enemies. It appears that you have all three - skill, courage and wisdom. You must be truly invincible! Tell me, mighty one, why have you collected all those flowers?"

The prince of monkeys replied, "My father wants to make me king in his place. He sent me to gather these flowers for the coronation ceremony."

The water demon said, "You are too noble to be burdened by carrying these flowers. Let me carry them for you." He picked up all the flowers and followed him.

From a distance, the monkey king saw the water demon carrying the flowers and following the prince. He thought, "I sent him to get flowers, thinking he would be eaten by the demon. But instead he has made the water demon his servant. I am lost!"

The monkey king was afraid all his unwholesome deeds had caught up with him. He went into a sudden panic, which caused his heart to break into seven pieces. Of course this killed him on the spot!

The monkey band voted to make the strong young prince the new king.

It pays to be careful!

From Judy - I Find Meditation, and The Practice of Meditation, Fascinating

image

No, this is not an April Fool’s joke.   I see the act of meditation and the practice of meditation as two distinct tasks.  I enjoy reading about meditation too, so maybe the study of meditation is also a task.  I find it all so warm, and funny, and educational, and inspiring.

Although most of us see meditation as a practice connected to Yoga – at least that is my impression of the Western belief – meditation has been here for ages – with the earliest written record going back to Hindu scripts from 5000 years ago.  I feel that meditation is much older than that date.  When the first people gazed at the stars and wondered about life and the stars, they were meditating.

Below is a paragraph from an article on Meditation, from soulcurrymagazine.com.  If you feel guided to read the whole article, it may be found at http://soulcurrymagazine.com/sc/tips-inspire-creativity.html.

What tweaked my interest here is the whole idea of meditation inspiring creativity.  I find that when I meditate daily, at the same time, even for just 10 minutes, that I am more creative in my thinking than when I meditate daily at different times and for different lengths of time – or perhaps I simply don’t recognize my creative periods that are stimulated by those meditations.  Regardless, if meditation inspires creativity, then I believe that it is a worthy practice and one that should be pursued.

MEDITATION INSPIRES CREATIVITY

Meditation Creativity
Every meditator is definitely a creator because he or she is creating the higher levels of consciousness within, and with this higher level of consciousness, all beautiful things will happen.

There is a profound relationship between meditation and creativity. A non-meditative person cannot be really a creative person. Now sometimes people are allergic to the word “Meditation”. What they don’t understand is that
The real objective of meditation is to be in the right state of mind where concentration, contemplation and awareness manifest in the being.
