Two thirds of the Earth’s surface is covered with water, and much of that is oceans and seas. It is interesting to me that we do not spend any significant portion of energy teaching students in school about the oceans and seas, although, in history, we make sure that we teach them about the history of ancient civilizations as well as Europe, Asia, and some facts about North America. We don’t seem to know much about the oceans.
Luckily, people like Jacques Cousteau and David Suzuki did pioneer work about getting information on the animals of the seas and oceans out on TV’s, in front of people, helping to educate us on the creatures of the deep blue. This video from TEDTV continues that education.
thanks for sharing this.. beautiful, sad and hopeful :)
ReplyDeletei have developed a love of sharks since i had an encounter with a very gentle swaying giant in an underwater dream..i'd always had a fear of them until then, but the dream was so soothing it led me to find out more about them.. and i was suprised to discover that we shared so many characteristics.. the calm, and the not so!
i do think the awareness of our oceans and the life their is increasing.
