Asian Wild Horses and filly from the Calgary Zoo Ranch
Last night, when I was facilitating a workshop in Fish Creek Provincial Park, my students kept saying that they could smell horses. Now, as far as I know, there were not any horses around us. However, it seems we may have been visited by some horses in Meditation time.
The Asian Wild Horse and Mongolian Wild Horse are names given to Przewalski's Horse, a wild horse that is found on the steppes of China and Mongolia that is considered extinct in the wild as of 1966. Scientists have discovered that this horse has never been domesticated. Some of the species exist in zoos around the world, including here in Calgary at the zoo. This horse is unique in its markings, colour, short mane which is similar to a zebra’s mane, and its wildness.
So why is an almost extinct wild horse coming to us in meditation at a workshop in a park?
The Asian Wild Horse has a message for all of us. It tells us that we should allow some things to be what they are – in this case, wild – and not try to change them into the mold of what we think they should be. At a spirit level, the horses see man mold the children into what the parent wants the child to be and not what the child’s purpose or desire is. Asian Wild Horse is telling us to let go of controlling what is around us, and to let things be natural.
