Seeing a Blue Heron always feels magical to me. Part of it is because they have been endangered, and part of it is because they are so solitary. The other day, when the dogs and I saw one fly over us at the river, the Heron almost felt prehistoric.
She reminded me that all things change and are yet the same. The cycles of life are constant – life and death. Neither is to be feared although many people fear to live their lives fully. Her message is that one can only experience by doing. There is nothing to be gained by not trying something. The memory of what you tried sustains you when you feel helpless.
Heron even pointed out that although it may not look like she (Heron) should be able to fly, she does so with ease. She is a creature of the four elements – earth, water, air, and fire. So too can we all be.
