Spirit Animal – Snow Tiger

Tiger has been appearing in many people’s dreams lately – as an orange and black cat, as a white and black cat, and sometimes as an almost black cat.Perhaps Tiger is your power animal – that is, the animal that reflects something in you, that you need to work with, and to understand.  In many traditions, at a time of crisis, the power animal will lend you the power that it carries.

It is the Snow Tiger, the white and black cat that is at its peak of power at this time (December 2009). The two colours, white and black, carry all of the colours of the prism, and therefore, the rainbow.  Our Ancestors use to call it the “rainbow cat” because of the way that the sun reflected off its coat, and seemed to make little rainbows.  The explanation, of course, is that the cat, who likes to hang out in the high, cold altitudes, actually has ice crystals in its fur that are the reflectors for the light.

The Snow Tiger is showing up now, to help bring down the light that has been accumulating at the tops of the mountains, and to ground the light with mankind. This extra light will help everyone absorb even more light.

Tiger represents one of the twelve signs of the Chinese Zodiac because of the crown that it wears over its third eye, on its forehead. Because of its regal characteristics, we should understand that Tiger is a solitary being that wanders great distances for food and for curiosity.  The chief lessons for people that carry Tiger power are around maintaining focus, around patience, and around the element of surprise – using surprise against others, and in turn, being caught by surprise.  The underlying lesson then, is to be mindful of becoming too complacent.

In honouring the power of Tiger, Chinese medicine practitioners use all the parts of the tiger’s body for different healing remedies.  Our Ancestors believed that anyone with Tiger power was a natural healer of others, and, as well, could heal himself/herself very quickly.  Tiger power people were excellent hunters, and could lie patiently waiting for prey.

Watch for more info on Tiger in the days ahead.
