"Magpie curiosity" Photo by Judith Hirst-Joyeux July 2008
Magpies are very resourceful birds with a reputation for stealing anything that is not nailed down, especially if it is shiny. Because of their characteristic of liking valuable baubles and for having picked up gold nuggets and coins, our Ancestors believed that several magpies around your house or yard, or around where you were working, was a sign of good fortune and abundance.
For those people with Magpie power, know that you need to pay attention to those shiny opportunities that come along from time to time. Know that you need to take advantage of them. It is the resourcefulness of Magpie that will help one to be successful. Pay particular attention, too, to the sounds that Magpie makes. One, alone, makes some noise. However, congregations of three or more make a joyful (or not) racket that gets attention. In keeping with the "squeaky wheel theory", Magpie says that one must speak up and ask for what they want in order to be noticed. If Magpie shows up in your life, and you have trouble expressing yourself, then Magpie says it is time to learn self expression and voice modulation.
Magpie's black head is symbolic of the black cap of the grad - one that has learned all they can from school and is now ready to move on to something else. In this case, Magpie says to move into using all your special gifts - psychic abilities and intuition - to feel more fulfilled and see the hidden world around you. Black is also about the connection with the Earth. All of Magpie's needs are supplied by Mother Earth. And, to balance the amount of time in the air, Magpie walks on Mother Earth quite frequently. There may be a message in Magpie's behaviour that you need to be out on Mother Earth and ground.
White is symbolic of spirituality and of higher consciousness than selfishness and greed. It is time to start looking beyond the level of self gratification. Magpie says to look inward and see what needs to be healed and then look to Spirit for guidance. Magpie may be asking you to soar beyond your current limits. Perhaps you are too grounded and need to balance the grounded-ness with delving in to new mysteries and expanding the current level of thinking.
What ever else may be going on in your life, pay attention to Magpie so you seize the opportunities presented to you.

Hi julie thanks for sharing you knowledge about Magpie it was very warming to find out how special these birds are. I have had three follow me since I was young however I have been quite afraid of them until now. I am now going to pay attention to them instead of hiding from them. Again I would like to thank you for insight on these magical creatures.
ReplyDeleteI too have strange magpie meetings, they seem to turn up in my hour of need or to help in some way? The time before last it was on the window ledge of my hospital bed. My family recognise this connection and have witnessed first hand how I am visited and followed. I enjoy these meetings and dont feel quite so odd now! Thanks, Imogen

ReplyDeleteI know that one of the ways that Great Spirit and the Ancestors and Angels tell us that we are watched over and cared for,is to send birds to be with us and to give us that feeling of comfort.
ReplyDeleteOver the last year, it seems that there are more Magpies around as more messengers are needed to go between worlds and there are more of us as "Earth Angels" that need guides.
Blessings,
Judith
Magpies are amazing. On a walk with a grandson he ran back to say there's a magpie dying ahead. By the time we got to it it was already dead. As we walked on 4 or 5 curious magpies flew down to check out what had happened. To our amazement they were cawing and hopping around the dead bird. Most touchingly they pecked its wings to try to open them and appeared to be trying to make it fly again.
ReplyDeletei saw a Magpie laying its neck on the neck of a dead Magpie a few months ago, i later found out that they are the only known bird in the world that has a funeral for its fallen loved ones. They place a blade of grass on three sides of the dead to signify it's passing.
ReplyDeleteHi , I thought I was pretty in tune with things , but today a magpie flew straight into my car windscreen while I was driving on the motorway, it was quite a fright, obviously it is now dead, I feel very sad and I am not sure what this signifies . Can you help
ReplyDeleteHello I have been thinking alot about my ex and speaking with a couple psychics about her. Her and I are soul mates and are suppose to get together again very soon. After a meditation and asking for signs from my angels I stood up and looked out my kitchen window for a while. While I was standing there 6 black white and blue magpies landed in my back yard pond for a drink. I have never seen these birds before in my entire life. Especially not in the city. I couldn't hear them as I was inside the house and they were quite happy drinking and playing around in my pond. I lifted my phone to snap a picture an they flew off almost as if they were camera shy. What is the significance of this. Thank you very much
ReplyDeleteMy first drum journey gave me an image of a magpie, almost sleeping/greiving with a wooden clock beside it in a green leaved tree. Since then they have given me signs for what to come in real life. In my home area they are many and they sorround me now and then as just being one, two or three, when im outside for a walk. This is a spiritual animal to me, it speaks and do not fear me, they visit me in the most impossible ways, like in a cellar i can hear they calling thru airvents, in the city they show up in the highest buildings etc. I'm amazed and love their looks as well. Thank you for more insights of this wonderful animal.
ReplyDeleteWe have several magpies in our garden and recently 1-2 have come and perched on the windowsill looking in at me and pecked at the window, knocking as if to get my attention. In the last couple of years I've had 3 loved ones go to the spirit world. I have found out about butterflies and their meaning. Now wondering about these magpies!
ReplyDeleteI find the information very interesting. In the last week we've had a family of magpies learning to fly in our backyard.
