Spirit Animal–Great Horned Owl and Wisdom

image

The Great Horned Owl parents debuted their three new babies in Fish Creek Provincial Park this past week.  The parking lot at the Ranch Restaurant is now full all the time as photographers and nature lovers come to see the family.

The Great Horned Owl mother and father fly up to our area frequently and sit in the pine trees in our yard or in our neighbours’ yards.  I love to listen to their hooting.  They talk about what hunting is like, and what the breeze/wind is doing.  Sometimes, they seem to be doing a “life talk” about walking in the night to see life through different eyes.  Or, sometimes the talk is about choosing how to live life – either as a leader or as invisible.  Several times, the lesson seems to be about right eating and right action, two of the Buddhist’s precepts.  Always, Owl’s words are thought provoking.

Angels Speak - I Choose What I Become

image

I was thinking about all the different steps in my life that were part of the journey to get where I am now.  I was wondering if I was making the choices or if choices were made for me.  I was really contemplating “free will”.

I looked up free will at http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/free+will and found that there were two definitions.

1.    free and independent choice; voluntary decision:    You took on the responsibility of your own free will.

2.    Philosophy. the doctrine that the conduct of human beings expresses personal choice and is not simply determined by physical or divine forces.

I looked at some of the things in my life that I considered to be a bad choice.  As I examined the circumstances around the choice, I concluded that I did make the choice and that it was the right choice for that set of environmental factors.  If I had not made that choice, I would have made a much bigger mistake down the road.   I decided that we have free will and with it we exercise compassion, give ourselves the ability to change dramatically, and help ourselves mature.

Angels Speak - Sometimes, Moving Forward

image

Life lessons come in such different ways. And, life lessons come each day of our life, if we are awake enough to see the lesson.   Often, we are too caught up in the emotions and actions of each day to stop to examine the lessons.  We miss them!

Here is a story that illustrates this.  I was working with a client in my day job. We were trying to work through a process in their Receivables department so that they had less month end work to do.  I wrote up the steps for the process.  I then walked through the process several times, and they could not seem to get it right.  I only had so much time so had to leave to move to the next client site.  The process did not get resolved.  That night, I was thinking and thinking about it.  I said to myself, “If only they could SEE the big picture!”  And then, all the light bulbs went on for me.  The issue was that they could not see where I was going with the process.  The lesson was about communicating.  I drew a diagram that night, and emailed it to them in the morning.  The email came back with a big smiley face on it.  They finally understood.

Angels Speak - A Dr. Seuss Moment

image

The great gift of Dr. Seuss is the practical advice that he hands out to people in the form of fun and funny ways of grouping words together.  The practical advice – you CHOOSE your path – never ages.  To repeat, it is timeless.  We need to make ourselves conscious of our choices.

Angels Speak - We do guide you

image

The vision that I get in my head when I think of Ancestors are people like the pioneers that settled North America – the explorers, the fur traders, and the first settlers that headed out into the unknown in wagon trains. My guides pointed out that many other people are part of our history and therefore are part of our Ancestors.  Albert Einstein is an Ancestor.  He was brilliant and not afraid to speak his mind.  He knew how to fail and how to keep going.  He knew about creativity and being in service, watching Nature to get guidance, and he believed in the spiritual.

The Angels say that he is a great example of knowing what to do with guidance.

Angels Speak - How To Over Come Being Offended

image

Perhaps I am getting more sensitive these days, and maybe I take offense more easily.  And, maybe, people are just more rude and say more offensive things.  What I do know is that being offensive is a sign of someone who is looking for power over you, and, being offensive is often the sign of someone working their way up to being a bully.

So, the other day when a fellow worker was saying things that offended me, I asked the Angels for help.  The angels – Michael, Gabriel and Uriel, all gave me an exercise to do when something offends me.

1. Ask yourself what is being triggered inside you to make you feel offended.  For example, did they say something that offended your sense of worth, your credibility, your integrity, your ethics, etc?

2.  Now ask why that is important to you.  When you know, move on to the next question.

3. Now ask yourself why this person is so important in your life that they can offend you.

4. When you make the connection that the person is not important to you, then you no longer have to be offended.  And, the person that was being offensive has been a good teacher to help you look at something going on inside of you.

Angels Speak - Being Positive Works

image

There are many things that happen each day that seem to be senseless and chaotic, and that make the day feel more difficult.  Each day, the Angels say, wipe the slate clean, and bless all the things that you do not understand, and let them go.   Find something good about the day, about what you did, or something good that someone else did.  Celebrate that.  Create a positive thought!  Cheer the impossible and the improbable.  Those thoughts and actions have a place in the design of life.

Decide that you have more to give to change the world, your world, one little bit at a time.  Find that place of peace within you, and move forward.

Angels Speak–Being Your Choices

image

Responsibility.  It means accepting your own part in what happens to you in different situations.  It is the recognition that our choices, through a sequence of events, leads us to the place that we are now.

Yes, other people make choices, too.  Yet the responsibility for our own actions means that we cannot place blame.  We choose – our schooling, our friends, our jobs, our entertainment, and where we choose to live.

If you draw a map, what choices led you to this moment?

Spirit Animal - Teach Your Child To Run

image

Buffalo comes our way to remind us that our children must be fit in order to survive.  She says that you must teach your children to run.  And to jump and hop, and to move as needed to escape any kind of predator.  Buffalo says that four footed children are not allowed to sit around doing nothing.  They are constantly in the school of survival.

Will your children be able to fend for themselves?

Angels Speak - Let’s Talk About Memories

image

Memories are funny pieces of information that stick in your head, and in your mind’s eye, to remind you of certain events – good or bad.  Why they are “funny” is that often the memory is not actually what happened, but the version that your ego wants to happen.  Yes, really what I am saying is that memories are sometimes lies.

When we talk about memories, the Angels urge us to be careful.  Looking backwards is not helpful.  We do not travel backwards, but forward.  And often, it takes all of our energy to move ahead.

Spirit Animal - Grizzly Speaks on Awakening

image

Grizzly says that coming out of the den in Spring is like awakening from a dream.  The dream begins with the air cooling off and every plant dying down, and when Bear emerges from the ground, the air is still cool and the plants are still mostly in sleep mode and just beginning to shoot up.

The new cubs are also awakening to the outside world.  They are inquisitive and playful and hungry.  There are many parallels between the Earth, the cub, and the parent. Everything is new again.  Everything is fresh.  Birthing is the theme.

Spirit Animal – Elk Celebrates Spring

image

Elk reminds us that this is the springtime season and this begins a time of birthing and creativity.  What new things do you want to do now?  Where do you want to be?  Are you going to blend in with the surroundings or will you stand out?

Elk ponders these questions, too.  She looks for places to hide her newest creation, and she gives silent thanks for the woods and plants that protect her child.

Elk says that we often are too quick to take our offspring out into public places.  She says they need time to build their strength and their immunity.

Blessings.

Angels Speak - More on Courage

image

My friend, Lu, was teaching me about BreakThrough, a tool that she learned to use to get through the big stuff in life that keeps us from being clear, powerful, and moving forward or upward.  One of the things that came up in a session was fear around stretching, and the feeling of being a coward.  Interestingly, this feeling goes back to an early memory in my life.

The point is, that it is okay to feel fear, and acknowledge it, and then move on.  I saw this saying from someone, and I realized that they knew what it was like to feel fear.  The saying resonated with me.  Almost on a daily basis, if we stopped to think about it, we feel fear.  It might be gone in a flash, but it is there.

We drive out on the freeway at above legal speeds, or slip through a yellow light, or try a new, hot, spicy food.  The reactions are similar.  The gut tightens, you might sweat, and your heart races.  You are doing something to yourself.  It is not from the outside.

For me, this makes fear and courage fascinating.

I wish you courageous days to come.

Spirit Speaks–Give Us Peace And Refreshing Sleep

image

Often, I ask for a wonderful prayer that I can use in my daily meditations.   This is the prayer that my Angels sent me.  I love it!

What better way to grow old than to have peaceful, refreshing sleep.

What better way to grow old than to have easy trails with no obstacles or detours.

Do we not all want to have good hearts?

Spirit Speaks – Kindness

Kindness

As we walk through life each day, what do you notice?   Do you notice the kindness that people do?  Do you notice the unkindness?   Do you see the gentleness in people, or the harshness?

What are the things in your life that influence whether you see kindness and goodness, or whether you see other things?

My suggestion is that many of us do not recognize kindness because it seems to be uncommon.  And, some of us mistake kindness for love.

We do not recognize the kindness in mindfulness, or in Oneness.

It is our nature, now, to be sceptical.

I wish you kindness today.
