Buddha Speaks - Understanding the Dynamics of Giving

Understanding and accepting who you really are right now is as important as the commitment to become someone more open and generous. Whatever the quality of motivation, when we intentionally reach out to others in giving, some degree of transformation occurs.  - Dale S. Wright, “The Bodhisattva’s Gift”

Walking this world is a lot of work!   There are many ways that we feel we must protect ourselves.  One way we insulate ourselves from others is to judge the other person.  For example, we see someone who needs help – food, shelter, or what ever – and we can say, “ It is not my job to help that person.  He/She should be taking better care of themselves.  They are lazy, or drunkards, or…..”

What will you give today?

Angels Speak - Take Time To Reflect

winter reflection Wallpaper

When the world is still, Nature is showing us it is time to be still as well.  Being still gives us time to review things in our life.  When we do the review, the sensation is similar to the reflections of the snow covered trees in the still water.

As nothing else moves, we have the opportunity to stand back and look at the things that made us happy and sad, as well as to look at our heroic and idiotic moments.  We can change!  We do not know what to change unless we have a chance to look in the mirror of life (reflection) to watch what happened, and to see why we may need to change a behavior.

Thought for today:  Let me reflect on my day this evening, and let this reflection help me put my day in perspective.

Angels Speak - Solitude

Sometimes, we simply need a place to be by ourselves, in the stillness of nature, so that we may find ourselves.  Solitude is about learning to be alone with one’s self. It is our choice.

It is not about being cut off from others, by others.  Being cut off from others, by their choice, is isolation.

Today, when you meditate, quizz yourself on all the times you felt like you needed solitude.  When you have your list of recurring instances, look at it to see when you need to schedule some solitude time. You then begin working with the flow of your life.

Angels Speak – What Weighs Us Down

We have all had an experience where we felt that we just could not go any further. We are worn out.  What we need to stop and figure out is “What is wearing us out?”

For a great story about overcoming what wears you out, see Leo Babauta’s blog at http://zenhabits.net/ultra/.

Buddha Speaks–On Meditation

The poster above tells a truism – that meditation helps us to let go of feelings and attachments.  And, what a nice way to do release – quietly, in solitude, to allow the emotions to drift out of your body.

Try a one minute meditation today.   Use the phrase, “I make a dent in the Universe.”  See what this phrase stirs up in you.  Repeat it over and over, and watch the images or feel the stories pass through your mind.

It is awesome!

Angels Speak–Children

When you wander through this world, you may become jaded with all that is the same.  Learn to see the magic in all that you took for granted.  Walk, hand-in-hand, with a child who can show you all the mysteries that you have over looked.

Learn to smell, to feel, to see all things in a new focus.  The colors and the textures change.  They are awakened because you now pay attention to them.  Find the grace and the peace that this brings to you.  This is the child’s way of healing you.

Angels Speak–Loving

The feeling of being loved is the most generous, all encompassing, delightful feeling that I know.  It comes from our family, our very good friends, and our pets.  It helps us get through the terrible times when we suffer grief, pain, anger, and even life threatening situations.  When people do not like you, it is the absence of love.  It does not matter for why associate with anyone that does not know how to love?

Judy

Angels Speak–Pay Attention

I often wonder how people keep relationships any more, that is personal relationships.  I love technology!  I have all the gadgets. I also adore people that have gadgets!

I do find it uncomfortable and dis-respectful when my friends cannot have an eye to eye conversation with me.  Why do I say eye to eye or “I to I”?  Because, most of them have one or both eyes on their cell phone or tablet.  The natural rhythm of conversation has ceased to exist because we cannot carry out a length conversation.  Yet the same person will text you twenty times a day.

Why is it that users cannot put down their phone for one hour or so, to have a great conversation with another?

Spirit Speaks - How Do You Choose?

image

When you walk through life, each decision is a fork in the road.  We all know this at an unconscious level.  However, we all need to be mindful that each choice is like the stone hitting the water; waves ripple across the pond and move the lily pad, splash the frog on the rock, or lap over the shoreline.  Our choices always have consequences. When we accept that we must change something, we can pray to move through that change with grace and dignity.

Angels Speak - Aging

My sister told me a story about a ninety year old friend of the family that set me to laughing, today!  Annie decided ten years ago that she would always be able to lift her self up off the floor.  So, every day, she lies down on the floor, several times a day, and then gets her self back up.  Apparently, she has given her Home Care Workers different kinds of shocks when they come in and she is doing her “exercise” and lying face down on the floor.

I want to be like Annie!

Angels Speak–Ways That You Are Blessed

Golfers say that everyday on the green instead of below the green, is a good day.  It seems that most people, however, do not enjoy what they have, and, it seems they are always moaning about what they do not have.

It is easy to be disgruntled.  It takes more energy to find the things to be grateful for.  Why does it take more energy?  Because we take all the good things for granted.  We do not see the good anymore as it is washed away by our need and our greed.

Make a change today!

Buddha Speaks–Peace

The news and the advertisements on TV and radio and the internet,  are filled with stories about people suffering from mental disorders – depression, anxiety, and dementia.

This poster focuses on what may be causing some of these issues. Living in the present moment is one way to get past the issues.

Angels Speaks - Caring

Reading through the news and through the online commentaries of world events, it seems that we have lost or misplaced the ability to speak kindly and compassionately to others.  It seems that unkind words are the cause of misunderstandings, the fore runners to bullying –whether people or countries – and the cause of all resentment.

The poster above is a great reminder that what you think creates the world around you, and then how you act in the world creates the treatment that you receive.

Spirit Speaks - Nature

As the winter sets in with its cold weather and snow, we tend to huddle in our homes, around the fireplace if we have one, and look outside at the blowing snow.  Now is a good time to remember that weather (whether) it is summer or fall or winter or spring, Nature is where we must go to balance and to regenerate.

We humans do not own the Earth; we are of the Earth.  The earth’s minerals and water flows through us.  We lose the Earth connection in the cities and even in rural areas – anywhere where life is “rushing” and where daily routines create stress and anxiety.

If you feel stress and anxiety, then now is the time to slow down.  Now is the time to step out into the snow and cold to bring down the stress level.  All is well.

Spirit Speaks - Camouflage In Life

this morning I saw a white rabbit when the dogs and I were heading out to the park.  I realized that Great Spirit was answering my question about how to fit in on my new project assignment.

the answer of course, is to camouflage until I understand how I fit into the group.  Rabbit does this year  round. Rabbit only lets those that need his help, see him to get a message.

Does Rabbit have a message for you?

Make It Your Job

Posted: 11 Nov 2013 08:49 AM PST

By Leo Babauta

When you’re feeling resentful or angry about something, it’s worth stopping to consider why.

This morning, I woke up to a dirty kitchen, and as I do most mornings, I started cleaning it up. Washing dishes, wiping counters, putting dishes away, and so on. I do this a lot.

And I found myself feeling resentful. Why didn’t other people clean this up? Why am I the one who has to clean it up all the time?

And I watched my resentment.

And I saw at its root a feeling of entitlement, that everyone should do things the way I want them to do it. A feeling of wanting to control others. A feeling that others should be what I want them to be. I’m at the center of the universe, and everyone else is a supporting character in my story.

Of course, that’s not true. They are their own people, and don’t want to be controlled, and want to live how they want to live. I’m only a supporting character in their lives.

So I could have tried to force them to act my way. Better: I could teach them to clean up after themselves, to pitch in and be good members of our family.

But what I did instead this morning is assumed that I am a servant, and that it is my job to clean the kitchen. It’s my job to serve my family.

The effect is that I released the idea that they should serve me, that they should do things my way. And instead I did the work without complaint, lovingly in the service of my loved ones.

I’ll still teach them, because that’s my job too, to serve them by showing them the best ways to live life. But I won’t do it with the resentment, only with the love.

Angels Speak - About Dreams

Creator always gives you messages about the thoughts that pass through your brain, or about the very BIG conversations that you are having with friends.

This message is about going out and being creative; being able to pursue what makes your heart and soul sing; about being happy in what you do.  It is about living the dream.  It is a peaceful message of hope and faith in yourself – your god self.  Do not depend on others to get the dream for you.  Go after it. And, it does not matter how old you are… there is not a time limit on dreams!

Spirit Speaks - Your Daily Actions

It seems that all around the world, incidents of lying, deceit, and thievery at another’s expense, are hitting the news.

Seeing the wonderful things that people do to HELP one another instead of wanting to HURT one another makes this a wonderful world.

What will you do today to make the world more wonderful?

Spirit Speaks - Being Immortal

image

It is hard to believe that we are immortal souls when we have so much going on in this mortal life.  Yet, if you can find that space of “no time” in your daily thoughts or in your meditation, you can see the very beginning and end of time, and all things between, for just a few moments.  And, in that time, you know there is no time and you are immortal!  You find memories and future visions in that glimpse.  You are eternal.

Buddha Speaks - About Sleep

Sleep is the best meditation.  ...... Dalai Lama

If you have been experiencing the same ups and downs in your life that I have been experiencing with the Nov 3 Equinox, whose theme was “eclipsing all your plans”, then you too are experiencing tired beyond belief feelings.

As it says in the quote, “sleep is the best meditation”.  Take some time this week to sleep.

Spirit Animal - Walking With The Wolves

The wolves have been very active in dream time – they prowl through the different sites of dreams.  Wolf wants you to remember that a pack is safer then being alone for traveling in strange territory. However, Wolf likes to go out and be solitary when it is suitable, and will travel many miles by itself.  Alone, Wolf is very cautious and will observe before going into the open.

Perhaps you need to listen to Wolf’s advice about something that you are going to do now.

Budda Speaks–On Being in Balance

I have been getting phone calls and messages from people who say that they are out of balance.   The article below is one of the best that I have seen about being in balance.

Blessings,

Judy

The Art of Staying in Balance

--by Osho   (Aug 18, 2008)

clip_image001The most difficult thing, the almost impossible thing for the mind, is to remain in the middle, to remain balanced. And to move from one thing to its opposite is the easiest. To move from one polarity to another is the nature of the mind. [...]

It is difficult for the mind to come to the right diet, difficult for the mind to stay in the middle. It is just like a clock's pendulum. The pendulum goes to the right, then it moves to the left, then again to the right, and again to the left; the clock's working depends on this movement.

If the pendulum stays in the middle, the clock stops. And when the pendulum moves to the right, you think it is only going to the right, but at the same time it is gathering momentum to go to the left. The more it moves to the right, the more energy it gathers to move to the left, and vice versa.

Thinking means momentum. The mind starts arranging for the opposite. When you love a person you are gathering momentum to hate him. That's why only friends can become enemies. You cannot suddenly become an enemy unless you have first become a friend. [...]

Logic is superficial, life goes deeper, and in life all opposites are joined together, they exist together. Remember this, because then meditation becomes balancing.

Buddha taught eight disciplines, and with each discipline he used the word right. He said: Right effort, because it is very easy to move from action to inaction, from waking to sleep, but to remain in the middle is difficult.

When you are standing in the middle you are not gathering any momentum. And this is the beauty of it -- a man who is not gathering any momentum to move anywhere, can be at ease with himself, can be at home.

--Osho

Spirit Animal - The Challenge of Winter

The animals remind us that in the Northern Hemisphere, that winter, with its ice and snow, is here.  The animals remind us to be mindful of the dangers of the snow that is deep and that can trap you, and not let you go.  They tell us too, about the dangers of ice, (frozen emotions) that suddenly let go, and leave you sinking into a times of despair.

Every person like every animal, needs a coping mechanism for the winter.  Some animals hibernate, while others migrate, and some do a combination of the two.  Food is scarce.  Help the animals with seeds and other food, especially if the winter is hard.

Spirit Animal - The Great Serpent

Whether you think of the Great Serpent as the serpent in the picture above, or as a snake, or a dragon, remember that our Ancestors long before Christianity, believed that Serpent had many roles.

Serpent’s greatest role was the symbol of the circle of life.  In many traditions, the serpent slept with it’s tail in it’s mouth, showing that life is circular.  In some traditions, Serpent curled around the roots of the tree of life, holding the tree in place and providing a base for it to thrive in.  If you think of the symbolism, and look around at parks and lawns, you will see that people still create circles around the trees, to give them a base, and even for protection.

The mystery of Serpent is that it moves through all of the elements in its various forms – dragon and fire or air, snake in water and earth – and provides a model for humans to be able to move through all of the elements as well.

If you have dreams of serpent, or if you see pictures as you go about your daily life, know that serpent is telling you to think about the circle of life and what you are doing with your life.

Spirit Animal - Elephant Singing

Animals bring joy and happiness with them.  They live in the now moment and yet, like humans, can have long memories of grievances and of great kindnesses.

I dreamt of a young Elephant, who was standing out in a field, singing.  He was singing of the joys of the tribe (family).  He was singing about eating tasty grasses and leaves.  He sang too, about the young animals he would get to play with from time to time.  He sang about his mother, and how she cared for him.

He made me think that we humans should be so lucky.

Animal Speaks – The Synchronicity of Crane’s Concern

I want to send a big thank you to CRANE today.

Yesterday, I was to have an exploratory day surgery in the mid afternoon.  In the morning, I did a meditation and asked what animals needed to speak with me.

Crane came in, wading in the water, not too far from land.  Her message was that now was the time to let go of fear of the unknown, and to wade into places that you have never been before.  Now is the time to marry the earth (wisdom and intellect) with water (emotion) and to bring forth a new understanding of one’s self and of one’s creativity.  Now is the time to let the natural world look after your healing.  Let it go.

When I got to the hospital, I had to wait for some time before they called me in.  My sister and I were sitting and chatting.  I looked up at one of the walls, and there was a huge picture of a CRANE, wading in water and watching.  The Crane winked at me.  My procedure was much easier than I anticipated, and I thank CRANE, who brought me a great message from Creator.

Angels Speak - Who Are Your Friends?

I love this quote -  “I talk about you like you put the stars in the sky!”

This means that you think so highly of someone that you cannot talk about them enough, almost to the point of a state of worship.  This can be good or bad.  However, I heard this phrase in the context of great love between a man and a woman, and the realization that they had.  They were so wrapped up in each other, they were losing their friends.  Friends are the food that keep you going.  So, it is good to love.  It is good to have friends.

Ancestors Speak – The Power of the Drum

I love the drum!  I love the sound that each one has, whether it is a group drum, an individual drum, or a rock-n-roll drum.  The sound of the drum is, to me, an automatic link to the pulse of the earth, to our pulse, and to the pulse of those around us.  The drum is an equalizer.  It will take you places because it has a voice and it is a leader.  It will take you out of yourself, out of time, and into space.  It is healing!

If you wish to take a drum journey, and are experienced in drum journeys, then you will enjoy the drumming tracks on THE PREHISTORIC SHAMANISM site.  Note that I suggest that you are experienced – that is – that someone has taught you the ins and the outs of the drum journey.  You do not want to get lost!

Spirit Speaks – The Full Moon in October 2013

On the 18th of October, the Full Moon bathed the Earth in light.  And, on the same day is the Lunar Eclipse.

Our Ancestors, the Earth Ancestors, knew that the Full Moon and the Eclipse were bringers of great power to the Earth.  The October Moon tells us what kind of winter we will have in the northern hemisphere.  It also tells us, through our dreams or through the many celebrations around the full moon, what issues will get stirred up in the human mind and emotional body.

For the next month or so, we all will be dealing with issues about truth, and what is truth.  We will need to look at our relationships with our family, friends, work, church/religion, and with our selves. We will be weeding out all the things that do not serve us any longer.  These are the things that hold us back from doing what we really want to do.  It is time.

Blessings,

Judy

Angels Speak – Prayer

image

The Angels tell us that the easiest way to speak with Creator is to simply talk to Creator in prayer.  A prayer is simply when we talk to Mother/Father God, or to the Supreme Being  that is in your belief system.

I think simple prayers work the best because they come from the heart.

I love this prayer because it covers so much.

Give Us Hearts to Understand

Give us hearts to understand;
Never to take from creation's beauty more than we give; never to destroy wantonly for the furtherance of greed;
Never to deny to give our hands for the building of earth's beauty; never to take from her what we cannot use.

Give us hearts to understand
That to destroy earth's music is to create confusion; that to wreck her appearance is to blind us to beauty;
That to callously pollute her fragrance is to make a house of stench; that as we care for her she will care for us.

We have forgotten who we are.
We have sought only our own security.
We have exploited simply for our own ends.
We have distorted our knowledge.
We have abused our power.

Great Spirit, whose dry lands thirst,
Help us to find the way to refresh your lands.

Great Spirit, whose waters are choked with debris and pollution, help us to find the way to cleanse your waters.

Great Spirit, whose beautiful earth grows ugly with misuse, help us to find the way to restore beauty to your handiwork.

Great Spirit, whose creatures are being destroyed,
help us to find a way to replenish them.

Great Spirit, whose gifts to us are being lost in selfishness and corruption, help us to find the way to restore our humanity.

Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind,
whose breath gives life to the world, hear me;
I need your strength and wisdom.

May I walk in Beauty.

Spirit Speaks - The Growers and Doers

4ccd3bfdf08b41 55 Inspiring Quotations That Will Change The Way You Think

How many people do you know get their hands dirty on a regular basis?  If you come from a farming background, chances are you know people who did get dirty, working with their hands, digging, tilling, and fixing machinery, or working with animals.

Statistics tell us that less and less people are producing any thing for themselves; they rely on others to produce the food, the goods, and the technology.   One of the most calming things, to my mind, is digging in the dirt to create a garden, or working with animals, or fixing a piece of equipment.

Yes, it is hard to fix things when the hard goods are all disposable, and some cities even prohibit the cultivating of gardens.  However, you may find a place where you can work with your hands, and get them dirty.  Your soul will thank you!

Angels Speak–No One Is Alone

I was listening to two women talking at a café while I was waiting for my sister to join me.  Their conversation was interesting because they talked about their children and how busy their kids or grandkids were.  Both women said that having their children close to them and yet so busy, made them feel alone or lonely.

I rolled that around in my mind.  Does lonely mean that they have no one to talk to?  Does lonely mean they feel excluded from the activities?  Does lonely mean that the children have nothing to do with their mother?  I wasn’t sure.

What I am sure about is that Angels are always present so one is never alone.

Spirit Speaks–Find Your Strength

image

Strength moves us from a place of helplessness to being powerful.  Even the smallest child can have incredible strength if they have incredible will!

Our will – our truth deep within our Spirit – manifests so many ways, and yet we do not see how we are being strong.  We see others that are strong, and we remark on how powerful or willful, they are.

Some examples are the will of people who are ill, to live.   Or, the will of someone to go to university and the most adverse situation.  Or, the will of someone who has different learning disabilities to learn to read and write, and then to write best selling books.   Gandhi is a wonderful example of the will of one man to make change.

I think about our Ancestors and how they had the will to move from Europe or Asia to North America in the seventeen and eighteen hundreds, and then hook up with a wagon train to travel west.  What courage and will!

Is there something that you need to find the will to do?

Angels Speak–Find A Haven

One of my favorite movies is “The Blind Side”.  I think there is a great lesson in that movie for each of us.  In the scene where Sandra Bullock asks Michael how he escaped from being sucked in to the life that his mother had.  Michael replies that when ever anything bad happened, his mother told him to close his eyes.  He kept them closed until the bad stuff was over.

The lesson that Michael is teaching is that everyone can feel safe if they find a haven in their mind.

Watch the movie and see if you agree.

Spirit Speaks - What Are You Thinking?

artcommentsfeelingsfunnylovequotessayingsmessagesandquotes a132e83b964b16145098a8cad85222e6 h1 55 Inspiring Quotations That Will Change The Way You Think

This poster was a really nice wakeup call for me!  I was falling into a trap that existed around me, on a project, where everyone worried about what could go wrong.  I thought about what I was thinking – that is when you realize how far out you can go with your thoughts!

I normally think happy thoughts.  I am grateful for my sisters and our closeness so I often think about situations that made me laugh when we three sisters were together.  I clicked into a knowing that I let that go… Why?  I was being sucked into “grim”.

I am letting go of grim and going back to happy.  I made a list of all the good things, and I have it visually pinned to the cork board in my office in my head.  I look at it every day, sometimes twice a day, or when ever I need it.  Things do go ‘right’!

Spirit Speaks - Work To Inspire Self

image

It is easy to let go of ambition to do this or that, and this is mostly in the competitive world of career and position climbing.  Competition such as that gets old after while.

What makes getting up in the morning lots of fun is to find something that you can work at, and, as you work at it, it grows and changes you – rather than you changing it!

Inspiration gives you new synapses in your brain.  It makes you fun, interesting, and a great person to know.  Inspiration is about feeling alive and being able to conquer all that lies ahead of you.

Good luck and blessings for your next inspiration.

From Judy - Discussing Religion and Spirituality

To me, religion is an agreement between a group of people about what God is. Spirituality is a one-on-one relationship.
Steve Earle

I am interested that several times, lately, someone comes up to me and tells me that they are spiritual, and then proceeds to describe their religion to me.  Their religion seems to have so many rules and “must do” and “must not do”, I wonder how they can possibly enjoy life.

I enjoy Steve Earle’s comment.  Steve Earle is a singer and song writer who has written hits for movies including Dead Man Walking and Brokeback Mountain, to name two.  His quote talks about spirit and it’s relationship with God or Great Spirit.

Spirit Speaks - You Are Unique

image

Some days, you have to get out of bed and say, “This is the dream. I can do what ever I need to do, today!”

By doing this, you free up yourself to look within, to see what calls to you from the heart, and allows you to do “something” that fulfills your soul.

Although that sounds like a huge task, it is not!  Fulfilling your soul is unique for each of us.  It may be anything from car racing to making bread, to reading to children at a library.  What lies within us is a need to connect with something greater than each of us.

For me, being out with animals, in Nature, brings great peace to my soul, my physical body, and my emotional body.  I come back to the house feeling energized.

My friend, Diana, bakes cookies.  She will make large ones and small ones and cute ones, and feel happier for it.  It makes her friends happy too, because we get to eat them.

Like the Eagle, we each have to soar and dive into things to find the special “thing” that fulfills us.  Start looking today if you don’t know what it is.

Blessings,

Judy

Spirit Speaks - Trusting In Self

image

I was doing a card reading for a friend, using Doreen Virtue’s Angel Cards.  The card that came up in every selection when we moved to a different question, was the card, TRUST.

The idea of trusting ourselves is not new.  We have all been taught not to trust ourselves, by religion and priests or ministers, by teachers, and by parents and family.  How many times were your decisions criticized by one of the groups in the previous sentence?  I know that they have your best interests at heart, but, do they really?  Or, are they trying to keep you from rocking their world.

It is often easier to persuade someone not to change than to let their change interfere with your life and patterns of belief.  You may even have done this to a friend.  Is that person still your friend?

Trusting yourself means not asking others for their opinion.  For some reason, if you ask for an opinion, the other person expects you to follow the guidance.  Sometimes the guidance is so ridiculous, you could not possibly follow it.  So, save yourself some grief.  Make your own decisions.  If you need to get advice from a trusted expert – a lawyer, accountant, or doctor, or whoever, that is different than asking someone who is not an expert.  Don’t stop doing that.

Spirit Speaks - Use Your Talent

“Use what talent you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.”
Henry Van Dyke

I love to hear about people that are changing their lives!  It is awesome to hear about someone who stops being a salesperson, and becomes an artist.  Or, to hear about someone who becomes a singer at age forty-five.

Our culture has done a great job of beating into us that we have to be excellent at whatever the task is… even though excellent is not really definable.  This culture has instilled fear into us about trying new things or about being outside of our comfort zone.

For you artists that are struggling with whether you are an artist, the “20 Ways” series offers you a unique way to draw without having your work judged.  Check out this book… 20 Ways To Draw A Cat.
