While we were on the island of Kauai recently, we had several encounters with the Hawaiian Owl or Pueo as it is called there. Pueo is now on the endangered species list so we felt very blessed to have several or perhaps the same one, guide us down the road at night.
Pueo has several thoughts to share.
- Flying into bright light is a good way to be blinded. We have learned that we need to fly with the light, and let our eyes adjust gradually. That way we can truly see what is ahead of us.
- Know where your safe place is. We Pueo lay our eggs on the ground so that we are truly grounded. This leaves us open to predators. We say that you must stay grounded at this time, and that you must be aware of who wants to “own” you. Set clear boundaries.
- Rest whenever you can. Resting is something that humans need to learn to do. Instead, humans are always active and this creates stress.
