global warming and change

This article first appeared in my blog in April of 2007.  A client and I were talking about change, and it seemed appropriate to run this article again.

I was searching for information about something, and a headline gave me pause for thought.

"Ice climbers give eyewitness accounts of global warming Last Updated: Saturday, April 7, 2007 | 8:11 PM ET"

The Associated Press The first line of the article was " Mountaineers are bringing back first-hand accounts of vanishing glaciers, melting ice routes, crumbling rock formations and flood-prone lakes where glaciers once rose." The whole combination of headline and of information makes this seem like a huge, shocking change that should scare us about the whole effect of global warming. At first thought - it does scare us. What happens when all we know is no longer there?

The second thought however, is - well if the world is perfect and everything happens with mathematical precision as the physicists have pointed out, then the event of global warming is an anticipated event, and the actions or behaviours caused by global warming are planned. If the ice and snow are being melted at the top of the mountain, and the ground is uncovered, then this "new" patch of earth is a place where new life or species can develop. That seems to me to be a very positive thing.

I understand global warming talks about the melting glaciers and icecaps and how water may rise along the coastlines. It also seems to me that the warming trend will raise temperatures and therefore more water will be required in some places. If this is the case, and if there is a movement of air, the water will evaporate and condense as rain or snow in the places it is needed. The earth seems to globally stay in balance. I wait to see what life forms begin a the top of the mountains.

I believe that in order to change something, one must first unmake it, get the design right, and then remake it. I think - regardless of the fact that humans are trying to control the earth, and control resources,- that Mother Earth is in the midst of redesign and that she just might sneak a whole new plan right past us!
