Spirit Speaks - What Is Fear?

image

We attended the annual Quester’s Fall Conference and one of the themes seemed to be around feeling the fear and getting past it.  There were very good descriptions of fear – that cold crawly feeling in the pit of your stomach; the ache in your stomach; the coldness one can feel around fear.

The definition of fear is “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat”.  What we know is that fear is the trigger for our limbic brain to send a fight or flight signal to our body so that we are out of the way of what ever causes the fear.  In some ways, we have not come very far from our cave men ancestors.  We still want to flee from what we fear.

What is interesting to me is that if we can identify what the fear is focused on, and not the general fear, then we have a very good chance of eliminating the fear and moving forward or moving beyond it.  The problem, I guess, is that many of us are fearful of erasing the fear because, then, we would have to step forward.

Blessings.
