The first awareness that many of us have of deer is through Walt Disney’s wonderful animation film, “BAMBI”. We watched, (or have watched our children or grandchildren sit) spellbound as the story of this gentle creature unfolds. We marvel at all the lessons in the film. First we see that the deer are very gentle and seem to get along with all animals. That trait is true in real life. The next thing we notice is that we don’t always see deer! Deer has the knack of blending in to its surroundings, and keeping still, even in broad daylight. This is one of the first lessons that the fawn learns. We also see the way the mother protects the young, and how the animals alert the Deer to danger. This is also true in real life as magpies, crows, ravens, and even four legged creatures will create noise telling the Deer that a hunter or danger is near.
The very large ears assist Deer in “hearing” both the sounds in the immediate environment, and the sounds far away that are carried by the winds or breezes. The ears act like radar antennae and provide the Deer with an uncanny ability to discern what is going on in the world around them. Antlers on the bucks are believed to be receptors for information from the heavens. Many early peoples believed that the Deer was sacred to the Gods, and because it appears at dawn and dusk, was actually a messenger from the Gods. Diana, Goddess of the Hunt, held the Deer sacred and nightly killed a deer with a bow and arrow so that it might be reborn again in the morning. This then is a symbol of death and rebirth, and of transformation.
Deer graze in the early morning and evening. However, a doe with two young fawns may graze during the day time as well. The deer will be sure to be in an open place where it can see clearly all around it. The Deer readily defends its young as Roger and I witnessed this spring in Fish Creek Park. A coyote decided to hunt a fawn to feed its young. As it stalked towards the site where the fawn lay, the Doe was alerted. We watched as she bounded towards the coyote. We thought the coyote might attack her! Never get between a Mama and her Baby! That coyote had one good swipe from Mama’s hooves and he was running. We watched Deer chase the coyote for a good twenty minutes. We think it passed on fast food after that.
Those with Deer as totem or power animal are very fortunate because the gifts Deer brings are clairvoyance (seeing) and clairaudience (hearing). Deer also brings great gentleness, kindness, courage, skill at blending into the surroundings, and a strong sense of family loyalty. Deer travel in herds that may include several generations. Some of the tribes of The People in Canada and the United States believe that Deer is a guide to the Sun (Deer appears at dawn and dusk) and as such, that Deer is a part of the cycle of life. When Deer appears to you, watch to see what message it brings, and how to be gentle to yourself.
We all honor Deer at Christmas as the wonderful animals that pull Santa Claus through the sky. We know that it is Deer’s place to do this since they are favored by the Gods and have been given the ability to fly between the worlds.

I believe that the deer is my Spirit Guide. I've had several really meaningful experiences with deer :)
ReplyDeleteAs I was driving a doe came racing in full gait towards my drivers side of the car. In response I grabbed the steering wheel with both hands and continued to now see her at my drivers door. I slammed on the brakes and waited for the impact as I could see her coming into my back drivers side door. Then she disappeared. I searched the back seat, the side and rear view mirrors and the ditch behind my right shoulder. She was no where. What was that message?
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your experience! There are several interpretations of this message. My interpretation is that Deer is one of your totem animals, and since you have not made any effort to merge with Deer, then Deer came to you to merge, and become part of you. Since the Deer is female, then part of the message is about allowing more of your feminine nature to emerge, and using the feminine to balance the male energy.
Blessings,
Judy
Normally i see deer all the time not this time was special >i feed our birds in our back yard and last evening i got done feeding them and went inside 1/2 later i look out of the patio door sure enough there was a deer eating the bird food sticking her tongue inside the feeder i said WOW so close thanks God she did not see me what a appetite she has my girlfriend took a video from behind our blinds ..What a wonderful sight to see
ReplyDeleteit was the most wonderful thing i ever saw my girlfriend was shaking with excitement i like to what is the message please Thanks
Hi Vince and thanks for your question. Deer, in this situation, may have several messages. Perhaps one, but not all, will resonate with you.
ReplyDelete1. Deer is very hungry - She is mirroring you/girlfriend, as being hungry for love and commitment, and settling for eating more, or eating unhealthy choices. She reminds you to make sure that you find balance. She, like most deer, like to be with a herd. She reminds you to accept graciously, the overtures of friendship and social invitations.
2. Deer is also about being gentle to one's self. Deer reminds us not to deny ourselves anything, and, not to over indulge in anything. Balance is not found in denying yourself food, nor is it found in bingeing on food/alcohol/drugs.
3. Deer tells us that when sustenance is needed, the Universe supplies it - and we are to remember not to set boundaries around how we receive the abundance. Simply, we are to let it happen.
Blessings,
Judy
I believe the deer is my spirit guide. I've always felt a connection to deer, as well as personifying, if I do say so myself, the traits of a deer totem. Despite being drawn to them and feeling deeply it is my spirit guide, I have never seen a deer in real life. I have had many encounters of just missing them, being unfortuanite enough to look the other way as others see a deer. I don't understand. What does this mean? Is a deer not my spirit guide or is the lack of presence a message?
ReplyDeleteI was taking a walk today, it took around an hour. And in that time I managed to encounter at least(!)10 deers.
ReplyDeleteThe last one I encountered took a step closer to me and started to browl(?) several times. I got really excited but backed off. When I came closer to it the next time I stomped a bit in the ground, and saw the deer, and another too jump away.
I thought this was very wierd, I mean 10+ deers on a walk?
I hope I didnt disturb the angry one too much.. I didnt mean to interfere, I was simply saying "I'm here, and I leave when I want to".

Over the last few months I have been having powerful encounters with deer. The first one happened this summer when I witnessed a doe get hit by an oncoming truck. I stopped the car and saw that she was still alive but badly injured. Normally I am quite distraught at seeing an animal in any kind of pain, but this time I had a strong urge to go and put my hands on the dying deer. Immediately fearful thoughts arose, what if it injures me, has a disease...etc. but I said to myself that is fear talking, now what does my heart say? My heart says put your hands on the dear. So I walked over, knelt down beside her and put one hand on her upper back over the heart and the other on her lower back and just dropped into my heart and was present with her. It was very peaceful and powerful at the same time. Just as her spirit left her body she kind of "untwisted and turned her face to face mine" then she collapsed and I believe that is when she died. It was very profound for me.
ReplyDeleteThe next major event was about a month ago on the same road, my husband was driving and my children and I were in the vehicle when a doe crossed the road infront of us. I pointed her out to my son and as we all looked at her to the right we hit her fawn and killed it. I was completely shocked and a bit numb. I tried to offer a prayer or something but was in shock. Weeks later I realised that killing the fawn had deeply affected me and I am always tense driving on our road every day. I can still feel and hear the impact.
The other time that really stood out was driving home again, a short time after we hit the fawn, I saw a buck standing on the side of the road just staring at me and it felt significant. I have seen him twice now in the same vacinity around the same time.
Since my first amazing encounter with the doe, I see deer all the time and I have all my life but suddenly I feel like there is some meaning to it. I am overwhelmed by love when I see them or think of them and when I meditate I imagine them around me, sometimes eating out of my hand.
I will also add that I am at a major crossroads in my life. I know there are major changes I need to make but have been too fearful to make them and to trust myself. Could you please share any insights?
In gratitude,
Chelsea
I was recently told that my spirit animal was the deer, and that she was my protector. I was taken back by this as I lost my husband 7 years ago to a motorcyle collition with a deer. This really confused me. Why would an animal that is to be my protector be my husbands demise?
ReplyDeleteI have felt for a long time that Deer have been one of my spirit animals. I have had many amazing experiences with them. Tonight I was driving with my family and happened to have an albino doe cross in the road in front of us. I was curious if you have any thought about the significance of the albino part of my sighting.
ReplyDeleteMany Thanks
My experience is that when an animal crosses your path deliberately, that you are blessed by this animal, and that she brings you a message or two. When the animal is white, it is truly a Spirit Animal because most animals are not naturally white, and you are doubly blessed. Your doe may be giving you the sign that you have been waiting for around an asking that you did of Great Spirit (God, etc.). The animal is confirming your question or action. When I was completing a quest, each time I completed a task, a white deer would show up. Blessings, Judy
ReplyDeleteA buck charged right at me from 30 yards away as I was standing by a pond admiring 6 white domesticated ducks on the bank. The startled ducks jumped in the water and as the buck got within 4 feet of me he decided to jump into the pond to avoid me rather than poke me with his antlers and he swam to the adjacent bank and ran quickly away. Any ideas what this means ? Love, Greg
ReplyDeleteGreg - this seems to be a warning about something going to harm you, from a spirit animal. Perhaps the buck is saying to be more aware of your surroundings and the people around you, - that the people may not always be trust worthy.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Judy
I know that the deer is one of my spirit animals. I have been seeing them at a close distance for about a year. Last winter I came face to face with a doe and we stared into eachothers eyes for about 20 minutes. I recieved many messages that night from an angel that came into my space, the deer, gentle and unconditional love I felt. My backyard is filled with oak trees and many doe and their fawns play and have a place to relax. Tonight I was sitting in the hot tub and came face to face with a beautiful buck. We stared at eachother for about 1 minute. I was Amazed to be so close to such an incredible creature. I didn't want him to feel like I was a threat so I stood up out of the hot tub and he pounced back into the trees. It is an Awesome experience to be five feet away from a magnificant spirit! I am grateful!
ReplyDeleteI was walking down my block on Monday, 6/20. I was in the middle of the block when I realized there was a deer at the end of the block -- a busy intersection. And then it ran in my direction stopping about 15 or 20 feet away from me. It just looked at me. I wasn't afraid, was just in awe at this magnificent creature. And then it started running again and went right by me (within about 5 or 6 feet from me) and down to the other end of the block. Next, the deer came running again, passing me as I watched it kicking up divots in people's lawns. It was so graceful, so powerful. It had the beginnings of antlers on top of it's head - it was so beautiful. I was worried for it being in such a populated neighborhood - this is Chicago. It went down the busy street and turned to go up an alley. I called an emergency number because I was concerned for the deer - I was worried it would run out into traffic, or that someone would hurt it on purpose. It's the closest I've ever been to a deer. Oddly, there had been a news story within the week before about a doe and her fawns near an even busier intersection in another Chicago neighborhood, about 3 to 4 miles southeast of where I live. I believe there is a reason for our encounter, I just don't know what it is yet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story! Thanks for sharing your experience. You are right there is a reason, and it will pop up for you when the moment is right.
ReplyDeleteLove and light, Judy
Last night, I was on may way home from Ocean City, Md. I was almost finished riding across the Bay Bridge when I saw a deer run across the left side of the road and get hit by a motorcycle and fall to the ground. I screamed, and was deeply saddened. But soon realized that the motorcycle hadn't stopped moving or had even fallen off, and the deer had faded from the ground. The deer was moving fast, and was a light gray in color. It had no features and honestly looked like a shadow of a deer. The area was very bright, and I'm 100% sure of what I saw. Btw, my bf was driving my car, as I was too tired to drive. My bf and other drivers saw nothing and had no reaction to the event, no horns no swerving to avoid. What did I see???? -Miranda
ReplyDeleteMia - see the post Spirit Animal - Deer Shows Up Unexpectedly from June 24, 2011 for some information on your question. Blessings, Judy
ReplyDeleteI had 2 dreams of deer.
ReplyDelete1) I was driving along this road in a truck and suddenly my radio wnt off with a reporter saying that there's oncoming road blockage. As I drive further I get out of the car and notice hundreds of deer dead along the road...the path extended into the horizon but I walked over and stepped over bunches of dismembered deer...without the antlers. And I woke up
2) I was in my car with a very close friend and deer with antlers were trying to catch me or crash into my car...in the herd of deer there was one tiger. We dodged and dodged until they all crashed into the car...weird thing was..neither one of us were hurt. As a matter of fact it was as if we watched it happen...what could these mean?
1. do you think you are dreaming about parts of yourself (are you female? don't only male deer have antlers?)
Delete2. We can always see ourselves getting hurt in the dream. it's a survival technique, dissociation. maybe it was telling you there are men out there with hearts of a tiger (in deer's clothing) who are trying to hurt you?
About a month ago I was listening to my ipod, and my spirit told me through my body that it would control the playlist. The song I feel like dying by Lil Wayne came on, and 30 seconds later I hit a deer! If I was a second early I would have totaled my tiny Toyota Echo. I hit the deers legs and my car swerved a bit, I wasn't scared it was just out of no where.
ReplyDeleteThen today as I was driving home at 11PM a deer crossed my path about 30 feet in front of me. I could see 2 sets of glowing deer eyes. I flashed my brights and another deer went back on the other side of the road, scared to cross.
What does this mean?
what are your thoughts on seeing a tame deer and a menacing wolf in the same vision. It looked like the deer was afraid of the wolf and the wolf commanded the deer (telepathically?) not to touch me although it was too late. i felt it's nose and snot, whiskers, etc...
ReplyDeletethese last few years I see deer all the time, dawn, dusk, middle of the day. I can turn my head while driving and see them, they are in my neighborhood now and we see them all the time. One jumped our fence and got into our garden, the other night I saw two fawn walking and I went outside. I was speaking in a high pitched voice to get my dog in the house and the fawn both came back to watch me. Yesterday I saw a doe with three fawn in our neighbor's yard, and one came to 'dance' in front of us... it was so cute. I always ask the angels and St Francis to watch over them and protect them (afraid of cars for all involved). I wrote I see them when I drive, and there are times I will turn my head and see them on the side of the road, and I cannot help but cry. This is new to me, 1-2 years old only... what does it mean? I cant help but think it means something... can you help? Thanks, Lisa
ReplyDeleteMy son is going through a very hard time. We were driving back from his grandparents at night time when we saw the biggest must beautiful buck. We were so amazed as it stood there looking at us (I saw it as I was driving and was able to slow down) We looked at it as it looked at us too. After we passed it I really felt a powerful spiritual peaceful feeling as it was saying to me...Its all going to be okay, trust in me. Its amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteTonight going home I was on a slip road leading onto a motorway, when a doe came out of the trees stopped in front of my car. I had breakes and would of hit her if she had not shown herself in time. I told her to move swiftly as it was safe to cross she hopped over the crash barrier looked back crossed the ongoing trafficking lane over another barrier onto the oncoming lane stopped looked at me then went into the trees again on the other side. No cars were on the motorway and it was so quiet and calm.
ReplyDeleteToday there was a new fawn barely able to stand in my driveway. It appeared as I was finishing a long run. I went to touch it and it just slumped down, not really strong enough to stand or walk. I pet the dear and picked it up but left it there so the mother would return. Earlier in the week I was on a run a nod a ber emerged longish me on the dirt road. We stopped and looked at each other. I talked to it and then continued on my run. All in the same week.
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago while on a walk (a daily thing I have done for several years), I was crossing the bridge on the road close to home and below me were two deer--I've seen plenty of deer in my life, and around the property and area, but NEVER in that spot--it is open, close to but under the road, marshy. This was also in the early afternoon on a sunny day (normally, we see them at dawn and dusk). One trotted away into the forest. The other looked at me for quite awhile before sauntering away. I somehow know this was a message, but am at odds as to how to interpret it. None of the classic interpretations seems to have the right "fit", the right "feel". As a family, we are currently in a state of limbo, wanting to leave this depressed area for financial reasons, yet unable to find positions elsewhere that will allow us to do so (we are both in specific professions). My son, who is also in a state of limbo (dissertation phase of a doctoral program) saw the same two deer a week later. They haven't been seen since, by us or anyone else we know, at least in this area. I am totally without a clue. Any thoughts would be appreciated...Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother passed away almost a decade ago. She and I were extremely close. Last night I dreamt of her, which I rarely do. Today I went to visit her. On my way there, I saw a dead deer on the side of the road. It made me sad. She is buried at a beautiful veterans cemetery that has acres and acres of land and a pond where a family of geese stay. I spoke to her about pain I had in my heart from some life experiences. I asked her to help me get through tough times. I also told her that my only wish is to be healed from the pain and to experience unconditional love. As I was walking back to my car, I looked to the left and saw a young buck looking directly at me. He was breathtaking. I stood still for a moment, both amazed and scared. His white tail waged and I felt at ease. I have no idea how long he was there before I saw him. He watched me as I walked to my car, then he graciously leaped away. It was a beautiful experience. I cried for about 5 minutes and thanked my grandmothers spirt for sending the deer to me. I no longer felt any pain or anger within my heart.
ReplyDeleteWhile driving home from a friends house at about 1 am, a deer crossed the road about a hundred feet in front of me, I slowed down as I watched it reach the other side of the road, then it turned around and looked at me, I stopped and it then it ran back across in front of me. I waited until it was out of my sight before continuing on the road. Any insight?
ReplyDeleteDear (Deer) Anonymous of June 29th,
ReplyDeleteThe immediate vision that I had was that you have been putting off gentleness with yourself. Deer is looking at you with sadness, because you are so hard on yourself. Blessings, Judy
My mom passed away 3 ago. The next morning after her death I got in my car to leave and as I drove down our long driveway I saw the biggest, most beuitiful deer with the biggest antlers I ever saw. It was standing right by my mailbox. It watched me drive all the way down until I was right in front of it at the end of my driveway. I sat there for a minute just saring in disbelief. It didn't move an inch! It stood there just staring back at me. Finally, I turned out of my driveway and went on my way. I looked back & it still stood by my mailbox watching me drive away. I couldn't believe it! I still think about this all the time. What could it mean?
ReplyDeleteDear Mindy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this. Deer was offering you support, courage, and comfort. It was offering itself to work with you, if you chose to do so.
Blessings,
Judy
Every week I see two large light colored deer with antlers standing in the parking lot of a church directly across the street from my home staring at me. The first time I saw them I was in awe because they looked so strong so majestic. However each week since the first time I saw them it's as if they appear out of no where, the same stance, all of us in the same position as the first time we saw each other, the difference is I've started feeling uncomfortable/afraid. I think the way they just appear as if they're waiting for me is disconcerting, and they always stare at me. Tonight I saw just one standing further back watching me. Again I had the same feeling of discomfort. When they're together it's overwhelming because they don't change like a picture in a book they're always the same. What is going on? I really don't understand what they want. I've never had this happen before, please help.
ReplyDeleteI was driving along at dusk, thinking about making a big lifestyle change and move from suburbs to open land where my only forms of transportation are my two feet and my horse, a nice slow quiet life connected to the energy of the land. Also in my mind was a fawn colored dog i've been thinking of rescuing from a kill shelter. Just imagining roaming the country side on my horse with pup by my side when out of nowhere a deer is galloping next to my driverside window at 35 mph. before i could react, she just brushed my side mirror, which flipped her into the side of my car. I slowed and looked back to see her getting up and hopping away jn the direction she came from. Im afraid the poor sweetheart most definitely was injured in a big way. Im sending my love and energy to try to soothe her pain and help her heal or pass with peace
ReplyDeletewhat does this mean? I'm in a period of such uncertainty and feeling lost - the world always sends signs to show me that i am still on the path. Is this a sign telling me not to pursue that life or is it fire to pursue it with determination?
what about the sweet fawn colored puppy?
I know you are busy, but I would so greatly appreciate even a word of guidance, thank you
I've had 2 encounters with deer (all bucks). As I was driving down my street early one morning and reached a corner intersection where to my left stood 3 bucks with magnificent racks. As I passed by all 3 turned to look at me. I felt a very strong presence from them and was very moved a such a sight. Whenever I see deer it's usually a doe and only one a time. Then a few weeks later another buck, also with a magnificent rack, appeared in my back yard. He stood and observed his surroundings for about 10 or 15 minutes and then proceeded to lay down in a spot where he blended in with plants grass and leaves. He laid there for a good 20 minutes or so. What a powerful and profound moment. I recently lost my job of 15 years and my dog I raised from a puppy passed away. Can you tell me what my encounters mean?
ReplyDeleteThe day after I lost my job of 15 years a majestic buck appeared in my back yard in the middle of a rainy day. He stood still looking around for about 10 minutes or so and then laid down in what we like to call our meditation corner. Then after maybe 20-25 minutes he stood up, looked around some more and then proceeded to lay back down. Also he would often look directly at my window making eye contact each time The total time he was here was at least an hour. A few weeks earlier I was leaving to run an errand and about a block later there were 3 buck deer standing together in my neighbors front yard. At least one of them made direct eye contact the whole time I was passing by. In between these events I also had to put down my dog of over 11 years. Hardest thing I ever had to do. This all made such an impact on me, especially the lone buck in my back yard. Can you, or someone, tell me the meaning or symbolism of all this? I know there's a message being sent to me here.
ReplyDeleteDear Judy
ReplyDeleteMy husband and myself were driving past a road when we saw 2 deers and 1 more followed shortly (in total 3 deers) by the roadside. It was an awesome sight as we hardly get to see such in my country. Can we know the meaning? Or is there any message for us?
I have been pretty emotional the last week or so, yesterday we were going out foe the evening and when we were getting on the interstate I saw a deer who had just been hit by a car. It was hobbling across the exit with a broken front leg. The rest of the night all I could think of was the deer. Tonight on my way home from work I was on the road behind my house. I was listening to the song played at my grandma's funeral and began thinking about my relatives who have passed and teared up, I suddenly see something moving in the road. Its a deer just hit, with a broken leg and can't get up. I sat there with my hazards on, called 911 to get it moved. Its thrashing and trying to get up and im telling it I wont let it get hit again. It kept looking at me, with its head flat on the ground almost calmly. Ive been crying pretty much since I got home. Could this be a new totem?
ReplyDeleteI always have deer grazing in my yard along with some mischievous behavior when they decide to eat my roses. Not sure what to think though. Last year, I had a deer dying in the middle of my drive early one morning. I called the police to get help of which we found that the poor animal was wounded with a bow and arrow. She eventually passed but not sure why she chose the hard driveway to lay down? Early this morning, I was greeted with three doe's at my front door. Grazing, taking their time and not appearing scared about anything. I just watch them until they decided to leave. Are they giving a message? -Christina
ReplyDeleteIt may be that the Doe are telling you that they realize your gentleness, and that they want to honor you for the care you took of one of them (deer on the driveway).
DeleteBlessings, Judy
In the past week I have seen 2 baby deer. I was driving both times the first time it ran beside me as I drove. The second time was 3 days later and it walked across the street behind me as I was turning. I was alone both times. Does this have any meaning or is it just a coincidence.
ReplyDeleteToday my daughter and I went on our normal hike and on 2 occasions we saw momma and a baby. The last ones let us get super close and didn't seem bothered or startled at all. I have also encountered a raccoon on my deck during the day several days in a row. Curious as to the meaning behind their presence.
ReplyDeleteDriving today ..passed huge seer on same side of the road (right side) dead in early part of day...
ReplyDeletehours later in the evening...
while driving up a street a
young deer fawn was crossing the street
in middle of street right in front of my truck...
I was able to stop my truck..and watch fawn cross the rest of the way.
Could you please offer some insight
Hi, and thanks for your comment. The Deer by the roadside was one that sacrificed itself instead of a human being killed in an auto accident. The fawn is a reminder to be gentle with yourself and to remember the children; both the child within you that wants to play and to be loved, and the children that are around you. How do you respond to them? Blessings, Judy
DeleteThe deer looked straight at..then crossed the rest of the way. With my truck stopped..just watched it hop across yard
ReplyDeleteHi, I just attended a 2 and half day event on Expressing Yourself through Voice and today whilst I was lazing around at home on a mud hill slope directly opposite my house I saw an outline of a deer so real caused by nature. Wish I could attach a pic here. I was told that I am very much spiritual and would probably receive my downloads these few days. Could you please provide some insight.? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis morning on my way to work, I was driving past a forested area and Outa nowhere, a baby deer runs into the road and I accidentally hit the poor thing. I was able to slam on my breaks and he got up from under the front end and limped back into the woods. I felt so terribly bad for the deer. I saw its eyes in a flash of a second right before the accident. I'm 7 months pregnant, my nerves were shot and I pulled over and my stomach started to contract painfully for a couple of minutes-but it went away. What does this mean?
ReplyDeleteDearest,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post! I've encountered spiritual connections with deers twice in the last 5 months.
In November around 12 PM I was running up a very steep hill in a park in a major city, and I felt the strong presence of someone watching me. I turned immediately to my left and saw the head of a huge buck watching me as I panted up the hill. My initial reaction was fear, but it faded to utter amazement. I watched him as I stalked to the top of the hill, and then he jumped out of the brush and galloped down the hill through the park and disappeared into the trail. This completely shook me.
Yesterday, I was doing school work with the child I watch in the basement which is ground level. When we work we face windows facing woods behind his house. Around the same time, 12 PM, a female deer came limping (through the snow) right next to the window and stopped long enough for us to look at each other, but then she limped away. It was her front right leg. I felt utterly powerless in that moment because I could not help her, and my heart sunk.
Please, is there anything significant that can be taken from this?
Thank you very much.
Michelle - thank you for this posting. You are encountering your spirit animal guide who wishes to connect with you. Enjoy the process!
ReplyDeleteNamaste Judy
I had a very interesting experience last night. To preface, I've never had this experience before and I live about a block from the woods but back to a busy road so not sure why this buck was near my window. I heard something outside my bedroom window last night (10 pm). It was banging on our house and then I heard grunting. My husband went outside to see what it was and it was a huge buck outside my window. My husband ran back in, we opened my blinds and he was staring at me. We tried playing music and shining a light to get him to move (initially I was worried about him trying to get in my window). He didn't flinch so I said I was calling the police. He left right after I said that and was gone the entire time the police officer was here. Roughly 5 minutes after the officer left, he came right back to my window. I could sense him and he was very calm. We fell asleep and I woke up throughout the night and knew he was right there. When I woke the next morning (7:00 am), I heard his antlers on my screen and he was resting his head on my window ledge. My husband tried to play the siren again to get him to leave but he wouldn't. My husband left the room, I got down at eye level with him, locked eyes, and spoke softly to him. I told him I apprecaited him staying by me last night but he had to go back to the woods to stay safe. I didn't want him to get hurt. He left right after that conversation and has been gone the rest of the day. What could this interaction mean? I really felt he understood me.
ReplyDeleteIn the last 4 years I have seen deer, not often but when I do is always 3 of them. They are swift and beautiful. They stop look at my then dissappear. Last night as I was driving g home I saw 3 swiftly cross in front of my xar. I looked to the right and they were gone.
ReplyDeleteHi Judy,
ReplyDeleteI live in an apartment and when my daughter got home she said come look at this. I went out on my porch and a deer was sitting down on the grass right in front of my house like 30feet away and just looking at us. I actually was going to call the cops because I thought maybe it was hurt. I started talking to the deer and no movement what so ever. Finally I got the phone ready to dial and she left. There has been plenty of times 3-6 deer stand in front of my door on the grass. I just talk away and they just stay and listen. Any ideas what it could be. I am a single mom of 4 children and trying to find a job I love and passionate about. Please tell me it is a good sign.
Thank you,
Nancy
Dear Judy,
ReplyDeleteI dreamed I saw a beautiful fawn. Then later in my dream As I was waking along a decked path near my house, I was wondering what became of the fawn. In my dream it felt like it was my animal that lived on my farm. So my deck path overlooks rolling hills of pasture land speckled with fruit trees and gardens. I noticed something caught up under the decking fence in the shrubbery. I realized it was the fawn and I was glad to see it. I noticed it wasn't moving and was panic stricken thinking it was dead. As I got closer, a baby horse walked up sniffing me and the fawn. Looking curious and anxious. I picked it up and it had clearly been attacked by something. I'm thinking a coyote. One rear leg is bent back across its back and broken. There are open flesh wounds but no blood. I pick it up and soothe it realizing it's still alive, it is peaceful and not in pain. I straighten it's leg and the wounds appear to be healing right before my eyes. I say it's not so bad but I feel like I'm in denial. I feel responsible like I shouldn't have left it on its own and think about the baby horse and how I can shelter it and keep it safe. I feel a bit lost because I don't have a barn or place to keep them. I woke up.
A few days later I'm cleaning my office and find a poster about a deer.
A few more days later sitting in the dentists chair the hygienist says, "there's a deer out the window ! A few moments later, she says its limping. It eats the vegetation and seems very hungry.
Is this a message for me? Is this my totem?

Dear Judith today I was walking quite a distance to catch public transportation to a Doctor's appointment. I was walking on the side of a very busy street with moderate traffic. As I was walking next to a wooded area I spotted something coming out of the woods. At first I thought it was a dog and became afraid, but as my eyes adjusted, I noticed it was a beautiful deer.Looked to be quite young, beautifully colored light brown with bright white spots. ITwas only about two feet in front of me just before crossing the street. As the deer cross the center line she was almost struck by a car. But fortunately the lady in the new red car stopped to let the deer pass. The deer slightly ran into the front end of the car, wobbled a bit, but proceeded to the other side and went into the woods. I was glad that it made it safely across. I stood watching in amazement. The lady driving the car rolled down her window and said to me, I wasn't about to let her tear up my car. I just smiled at her and said, I know that's right. What does this mean for me? Earlier that day a bird flew towards me and landed at my feet. Even as I acknowledged the bird it didn't fly away. It keep walking next to my feet. My daughter and a friend thought this was odd, because birds usually fly away before you can get too close to them. Is there a connection between the bird and the deer? Thank you for your reply.
ReplyDeleteVenus... thank you for your sharing of the event with the Deer and the Bird. Without knowing the type of bird that moved toward you, it is difficult to say what the relationship is between the Deer and the Bird, and you. Deer is usually about bountifulness, abundance, gentleness, and grace. It may also represent fearlessness. Given whatever your life situation is currently, the Bird and the Deer may be telling you to move forward with grace and ease and to be fearless.

Hi Judith. It's anonymous C. I'm just wondering if you have any thoughts on my previous post. I would be very grateful for any insight you may have.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Blessings, Anonymous C. I apologize for missing the comment on your posting. I thought I had done so. My mistake.
ReplyDeleteAs to your dream... Dreams are fascinating because there is often this feeling of being so real that waking up leaves us saying "No, No! Let me go back!"
We, however, must live in the three D world. And in the here and now, the fawn and the colt are about rebirth; the starting of something new. Your ability to heal the fawn is perhaps a foreshadowing that you will be turning more to the spiritual path and that now is the time to begin some healing training. There are many modalities. With the animals around you, perhaps some aspect of shamanism speaks to you. And remember, healing takes place in many ways. It can be by hands on, or music; or distance; or story telling. Find what resonates with your heart (not your head). Love and light, and many wishes for great courage for you as you start this new movement. Judy
I hit a deer tonight. It jumped out in front of me and I slammed on the brakes but still somehow managed to break one of it's legs. I turned the car around to see if it was ok and I could tell it was broken. I didn't know what to do, I didn't want it to die a slow painful death, but I didn't know if it would be ok and get up and go. So after 20 seconds and him not moving I made the extremely difficult decision to run over it and kill him so he wouldn't be in pain. I had to run over him multiple times before I could see him stop breathing. I have been crying for an hour and can't get over it. Everytime I see a dead animal on the road I say a prayer because I respect and love animals and I figured no one else probably says a prayer for them if they are hit or dead on the side of the road. I have been a vegetarian for 2 years, I'm an animal rights activist, I've been fighting against factory farms and any cruelty or hurt towards animals. I have even found my life calling which is to work at an animal sanctuary. And I have spent months working at shelters and helping dogs get adopted and cared for. So I am beside myself why this happened to me of all people. I used to pride myself on how well I paid attention while driving because I have missed many deer in the past. I have seen dead animals on the side of the road and cursed the heartless idiots who just couldn't be bothered to slow down. So why did this happen to me? Why was I faced with the decision to kill this beautiful baby deer or let him possibly suffer? But what if he lived and recovered. Could he recover? Was he actually in pain? Did I do the right thing? And what does this all mean? Why did this appen? Why did he have to die? And why did it have to be by my hand? Can you please help me shed some light on this?
ReplyDeleteDear FatalBeauty,
ReplyDeleteI read your comment several times. Here is what is coming up for me to share with you.
1. Judgement - not knowing the circumstances about why someone hit an animal or bird is the mirror that is coming up for you as you have now hit an animal. Would you consider yourself heartless? This is about finding compassion for both the animal and the human that hit the animal.
2. Why would you run over the animal again and again? The procedure when one hits a deer, etc. is to call the police/sheriff, etc. as they usually come and shoot the animal, making it less painful, and contact the local zoo, rescue center or what ever organization needs the meat for its animals.
3. Animals that are hit on the road are usually sacrificing themselves for the person who hits them; that is, preventing that person from having a bad accident with loss of life. This is an amazing offering on behalf of the animal.
4. Bless the animal. Forgive yourself and make an offering to Mother Nature by donating to a wildlife rescue org, or donating food to the Humane Society or what ever speaks to you.
Blessings,
Judy
This is not a dream....it was late, I left out of my house to walk 7 minutes around corner from my house, as I was turning the corner to get to his complex (mind u there are big bushes soon as u take the turn to enter into his complex) I came face to face with a big mean looking deer, big antlers an all, I'm talking about not even arm length apart.... needless to say I was scared to the bone, I'm a small built girl, he did not move till I did, an he only moved when I did...I took a step back he took one towards me, I took another back he took another towards me, I slowly pulled my phone out my pocket an dialed my boyfriend an told him to come out n hurry....my boyfriend came out started yelling an he ran off....it was dark out side, I saw red for his eyes when I first turned the corner....everybody told me I was so lucky..this deer was so close to me, I was scared for the longest
ReplyDeleteHi Judy! I have to share about a dream I had last night. It involved deer - now I understand what the symbolism of deer is, but it's what actually happened that intrigues me. I've kinda formed my own interpretation but would love to hear ideas from someone who understands these things far better than I. I dreamed I was at a festival or fair of some kind, and returned to my tent. There I found it surrounded by probably a dozen fawns grazing. I don't know how but I knew there were other deer inside my tent too. Not wanting to panic them I slowly crept to beside my tent and sat down on the grass, expecting them to notice me and leave, alarmed. But they didn't. What I knew to be a doe stuck her head out of my tent and looked at me, not in fear but with an acceptance in her eyes. Some of the fawns continued grazing, others came over to me, sniffing around me. One nuzzled my ear, another licked my face. It was beautiful! Sadly my phone then rang and woke me, so I've no idea what would have happened next. It was such a profound dream, and I woke feeling wonderful. Thoughts please, I'd love to know if my interpretation is on the right lines! Thanks and blessings xx
ReplyDeleteJay - what a lovely dream! Thanks for sharing this. Deer appears to tell you that you are part of the herd. As a member, you are treated with love and acceptance. This is a model that you can share with your family and friends... your earthly herd. Peace and loving kindness, Judy
ReplyDeleteIt's THREE in the morning and I have been off sick since Sept 4th with terrible stomach problems. I woke out of a deep sleep suddenly to let the cat in. When I opened the door, THREE white tailed deer with their backs to me were slowly, beautifully rounding the corner of the sidewalk across the street, making their way up the road.
ReplyDeleteWe are in a subdivision, bordered by woods on one side, so I was startled. The air held a strange white fog to it, and the deer's tails, the pure white beauty of their tails alone were heart-stopping. They paused, they looked around abit, but not nervously. I was shocked they didn't ear the sound of my squeaky door across the street. They made their way up and around the bend and then they were suddenly out of sight.
I am a mom of 4 children, 3 boys and a girl. 2 are adopted (1 boy, 1 girl). I am fiercely protective, I have a child-like spirit in that I see and feel how children feel. I have lost a baby daughter, Ainslea who was a twin and died at birth, lost my mother (who I never connected with as my dad raised me), and my 100 yr old grandma died in Oct. My current deepest desires are to work here in my hometown (I finally got a teacher's job, but it is 45 mins away and I got sick the FIRST day of school and have been off since), also I desire to heal all "broken-ness" by my mother and by my adopted daughter's mother so that my adopted daughter and I set things right for the girls of our future generations of this family, and I desire to heal from my current sickness ( I have c-difficle, stomach pain that no dr can figure out, and now dr's are starting me on injections that stop my menstruation to ease the pain of periods, which I am worried will stop the course of nature). Sorry to be so long-winded but I am really looking for guidance. I would be honoured if you would ponder this vision and the meaning of 3 for me. Thank you for taking your time to talk with us on this site. I wish you many, many blessings. :)
Went out to my barn this morning to feed my horses and as I was putting out two of them in the paddock closest to my garden area they both started spooking and snorting. On initial look I couldn't see anything. When I went back out to clear the ice out of the water bucket then I saw it. Then I saw it....a dead deer (Doe). It appeared to be fed upon by a wild animal. Possibly hit by a car. Went some distance and ended up in my garden. What does this mean to you? Thanks in advance
ReplyDeleteI have recently realized that deer is my spirit animal. It has been coming to my dreams and during meditation several times before in my life but I did not pay a lot of attention to it before this. I have also been in a car when it crashed to a fawn that was following two grown up deers. None of us in the car were hurt but the fawn lost its life. A couple of years later I was walking alone in a forest when I ran in to a skull of a deer. This week I went to Animal Kingdom during meditation to search my spirit animal and this doe came to me again and suddenly a lot of things in my life seem to have more meanings and explanations because of this animal spirit. I´m just wondering what does that car crash, dead fawn and skull in the forest mean? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHello..
ReplyDeleteYesterday, I prayed to be more like the deer.. I see them everyday.. They're always in my yard, and often sleep under the trees in the winter.. I am always reminded to be more gentle and kind when I see them... Anyways so-I prayed that I would possess more of the qualities a deer has and symbolizes shortly after seeing one on a walk...
This morning, I was leaving for work at about 6 AM... And across the road from my house, was the young deer I had seen early that day.. Injured and laying in the ditch.. Unable to move...
I'm wondering if anyone has any insight to the symbolism behind this?
I am sure that the deer is one of my spirit animals along with the bear.. Though the deer has lately been a lot more prominent in my life..
Thank you in advance..
Blessings
Hello
ReplyDeleteToday I was up stairs and I heard loud banging from down stairs, I went over to see what it was and it just so happened it was a deer! She was trying to slam the back door open and get into our house. Keep in mind that our house is in the middle of a neibourhood with fencing, she had blood around her face from slamming on the door so hard she also slammed on one of the windows in the back she saw our two dogs barking at her but still continued to hit the door again until she stopped and jumped over the fence and ran away
What does this mean!?
Thanks
Hello
ReplyDeleteSo I was upstairs when I heard loud banging downstairs
I went to see what it was and it turns out it was a deer slamming herself against the back door to try and open it keep in mind that we live in a neibourhood with a fenced backyard so this is very un usual
She had blood on her face from hitting the window and door and was very scared but after we tried to let her out she just jumped over the fence and ran away,
What does this mean!?
Hi!
ReplyDeleteThis morning I left for a cup of coffee around 5 a.m. and decided to go drink my coffee in the parking lot of a grocery store. As I park my car and turned off the lights I noticed at the end of the parking lot a gorgeous deer standing out in the open in and around a residential area. As I looked up I saw the gorgeous deer, it was just standing there staring right at me and stood there for a few minutes staring at me a little longer. I was in complete awe I'm surprised. I have seen deers in the past but never like this this was intense it was, I can't even describe how I felt it made me cry.
I would really really love to know what message was the deer giving me at that particular time. Such a beautiful moment and so appreciated.
Thank you,
Na
I've been going through a really hard time - I'm pregnant with twins, but I've been told that one of them will pass away inside of me before she's born...
ReplyDeleteOn Father's Day at around midday (2 days ago) I went with my mam to lay flowers on my Grandad's grave and as we drove up the path of the cemetery there was a doe crossing over the road - I jumped out of the car to follow her... She was no where to be seen... I got back in the car and drove 5 meters and she was there staring at me through an opening... I stopped the car again to go and see, but she disappeared again. Both my mam and I saw her, but no one else in the area seemed to - even dogs were walking around, but not reacting!
The following day we drove past the cemetery (around 7pm) to take my nana home and we had no reason to go in to the cemetery ... my mam quickly turned the car around at the next junction and drove up the same path. The doe was stood in exactly the same place again, turned and stared at us for a few seconds and then walked away... Weird thing was, my mam and I could see be clearly, but my mam's couldn't! No lie!!
Please could you tell me what you think this means?
Dear Anonymous - the Deer is telling you to be gentle with yourself, and she is telling you to be very careful about what you believe. What you believe creates your reality. Deer shows you that reality is different for different people - you can see her while others cannot. Who is right? Remember to rely on your own strength and what you know.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteA friend has been involved in a land-use dispute in the country. There was a ruling in his favor but it is not a secure one. On the morning of a daytime party to celebrate the ruling, he found a (naturally) dead buck by a pond, under a dock.
is this an ominous sign, and if so, in what ways?
Thank you for continuing this blog posting over the years.
Hi Ann,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sending your comment and for thanking me. :)
We often associate death with a negative sign. However, in this case, it may be that the buck under the dock signifies the defeat of the powerful trying to take his land. If you think that dock often represents court or legal issues, then the dock ruled in his favor. While deer are about abundance and gentleness, it is this time of year that the male fight for dominance. Blessings, Judy
I dreamt of a colleague giving me a dead red baby deer as a gift, and I held it with compassion asking why it was dead.could you kindly explain the meaning to this dream it felt so real.sarah
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your dream. Your colleague handing you a dead baby deer may signify a sacrifice, made by the deer, to save you from something. Without knowing any of the circumstances in your life or around the dream, that is as close as I can get. Blessings, Judith
Deers cross my path alot. Usually at night when it is quiet an nobody is around. They walk slowly and stop several times steering at me. Then disappear. The past few years it's happened more often. But it is a peaceful feeling an awkward at the same time!? I've been told lots of stories over the years. I thought I would be afraid if one did cross my path but I'm not at all!! ??
ReplyDeleteI would appreciate some feedback on this I live in an apartment complex in the middle of a metro area it's a very large complex. One morning 3 weeks ago a very large doe cross the path of my vehicle as I was driving out of my complex. It was early in the morning but light and she stopped to stare at me for several minutes before simply turning and walking into some trees at the edge of the complex. Excitedly I told several friends and I'm sure they either thought sure or so what but at the back side of my actual apartment which is quite a ways from the encounter there is a set of woods which in cases a Dry Creek bed. Before this incident I would never have thought this would be a large enough area to support a deer, the Woods Maybe 30 yards across and span several miles lengthwise. I had completely forgotten the incident and was driving home from work in the afternoon around 4 p.m. when I saw my favorite parking spot right underneath my apartment Window on the second floor I was on the phone and I hung up and looked up through the driver's window and almost passed out from shock when standing 10 ft in front of me directly under my apartment Window was the same doe. Okay so here we go yes I can tell it was the same Doe because of these circumstances she has to jet black circles surrounding both her eyes almost in casing her whole head. She also is huge for a doe and this time of year with competition I know they can look a little tattered with sparse shedding hair Etc. But not this girl she was shining with a sheen on her coat and ears standing straight up. I shaking Lee got my phone and took some pictures which turned out so so and was able to get out of the car and walk a few feet towards her before she turned around and hopped into the brush. This was the same deer I'm certain. The question is this is this a sign I can't take the Curiosity if crossing paths once is a sign then what about twice such a long distance away from the two sightings and the same doe underneath my apartment the coincidences arr two astounding someone please tell me if I'm crazy or interpret this. Scott
ReplyDeleteHi Scott,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the story about your experience with Deer. Without knowing what is going on in your life, it seems that Deer is bringing you the message to be kind and gentle with yourself, and to watch for little miracles. This will help you stay in the flow. Blessings, Judy
I was driving to see my horse yesterday and out of the blue a small, grayish, I believe it was a doe, came running from the drivers side of the road as it was about to cross the Center line and careen into my truck it tripped falling on its face then vanished. I looked out all windows and mirrors and never saw it. The car behind me seemed to have never seen it. Any ideas? There is a lot of chaos in my life right now.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful experience to have! You were visited by a spirit animal messenger, a being that only you were meant to see. Doe's visit to you is about being careful and keeping what you are thinking hidden from others. It is about staying camouflaged for protection and keeping your own counsel; not depending on others. If you depend on others, they will intentionally or unintentionally lead you into harm. Blessings, Judy
Last night as I was coming down my road I got to my drive way and seen 2 deer in my front yard. Just before that I had tears running down my face because I was thinking about my mom who passed from Cancer last December. Could these deer be a sign from Heaven or why could they have been in my yard? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your Deer story. If the Deer feel like a sign to you, then they are. Remember that signs may be different for each of us. Deer also appears to remind us to be kind and gentle with ourselves. Blessings, Judy
