Spirit Animal - Jaguar

image

Last night, as I was falling asleep, my Black Jaguar, who sits on my Sacral Chakra, popped in and asked, “Why don`t you write about jaguars as spirit animals?” So, today, I will write about jaguar.

Jaguar is sacred to indigenous people in South and Central America.  They call it “the animal that kills with a bite”`because the Jaguar kills its prey with a single bite.  Jaguar makes a loud coughing noise.  She is unable to roar.

In Munay-Ki, Jaguar is a totem that reflects integrity, steadfastness, truth, and the ability to blend in with the day or the night.  Her skills include climbing, running steadily for hours at a slow trot, and keen night vision.  The people with this totem or spirit animal, are generally agile, loners and leaders, and very good orators.  Most Jaguar people are writers and thinkers, and do something to change the world.

Jaguar likes to live in caves, close to water, much like the hermits or isolated monks do. If she appears to you, she may be reminding you that in the Northern hemisphere, people should be moving into a hibernation or isolation stage in their life.  It is a time of regeneration.  This is a time to heal, to refresh the mind, and to contemplate one’s next steps.  When we don’t take this time, people get out of balance.

  1. I have had four jaguars in my dreams over the past six months. Being Australian I found it odd they would be in my consciousness but having read this blog and in particular http://wolfs_moon.tripod.com/JaguarTotem.html it makes much mre sense.
    Thanks for posting

  2. Thanks for sharing Mark. What I have learned while working with the animals is that they appear to us because of who we have been and who we are to become. What this means is that we may have had a past life or many past lives with an animal, (and I include fish, birds, reptiles, and insects), or we may have missed our time with the animal, and that time needs to happen before we/they can move on.

I'd love to have you share how jaguar appeared to you in your dream. Blessings, Judy

  3. Today I began to paint and the watercolor began to paint a jaguar. I was very surprised this animal was coming through my painting. I knew immediately it was an animal spirt. I began to meditate on the animal and she appeared, showed me her children and then asked me to swim with her.I myself love to swim. I looked up the jaguar on the net and learned the qualities and now have a framed art piece with the qualities and face of a jaguar. I feel honored that she showed herself to me and it signifies a long journey I have been on. It makes sense to me why now...

  5. Jillmarie - from the description of your dream, it feels like Jaguar is trying to take you in hand, that is, guide you. She may even be trying to give you some Jaguar strength in your hands. Sit quietly, and talk to her to see what she is wanting to show you. Blessings, Judy

  6. This blog is awesome and so are those who responded to it.

My Jaguar was chained on a tree somewhere in Brooklyn and I cut it free and walked away with the baby Jag in my arms. The little Jag held me tightly but did not hurt me at all.

  7. A black jaguar used to frequent my dreams 5 years ago with chronic nightmares. She would quietly but firmly tell me things through words and actions, including that certain friends and acquaintances would be killed by her and that there was nothing I could do. This would terrify me greatly.

None of these people have actually died, but each of them proved to, and eventually confessed to me, that they had deceived or betrayed me in some way. As a result my relationships with them were tarnished and are mostly nonexistent now.

I have not seen Her, the Black Jaguar, in several years. The nightmares she arrived in were so life-like and terrifying that I begged for her to leave me. Now that she no longer visits me, I find that I miss her.

I have always been of an agnostic bent to beliefs; a doubter. Spirituality found me without my seeking it. She definitely helped me to contemplate things: through subversive and manipulative guidance. Again, I miss her.

  8. Mr. Know-It-All, that's all very interesting. Maybe she was trying to tell you that things are never as they seem, and to trust your yourself. Perhaps she was trying to tell you to pay attention to the subtleties around you, because they all act as clues. Perhaps your someone who tends to miss signs unless you are scared into realization (as I believe most of us need a little chaos to wake us up). Nevertheless, if you would like her to come back I would imagine you could just invite her back into your mind, trust your intention. She's more likely laying low within rather than completely gone.

  9. I dreamt I was married to an Iranian, my mother in law said I was lazy. My husband loved me to bits and gave me a black jaguar as a present, she was so beautiful I was very pleased in my dream. She was just lying down quietly.

I have read up on how to name and recall my beautiful black jaguar, I am an animal rights activist but because this is my first experience any enlightment would be most appreciated. kavrazkim2@yahoo.co.uk

  10. Thank you all for you posts on Jaguar dreams. I was looking for some help to understand my own. I had a dream years ago that was so real I can still feel it as if it happened yesterday, even though it occurred in the 1980s! I dreamt that I was being chased through a thick jungle and the people who were after me were gaining on me when suddenly my body started to change. I could feel my muscles and every sinew alter and, as I ran, I became a jaguar. I could feel myself completely in this new body as I bounded up some stairs and to the top of a pyramid temple. There was a priest on my right side, in front of an altar (he looked Mayan or Inca or something of that sort) and I think he meant to sacrifice me. There was some kind of earthenware bowl for blood and a clay circle with inscriptions on the wall behind the altar, but I just jumped past and over the altar. I jumped right through the circle design, breaking it and landing into a totally new place in a tranquil open space that was lush green. The air there felt different but i could see or remember no more. I think I woke up. It was all so vivid and has stayed with me all these years. It sounds crazy but I really felt like I was there. Years later, when we got the Internet, I tried to find out about it and found some symbols and places that looked familiar and learned that spirit animals are part of many beliefs. Could that have been my spirit animal? I would really appreciate some help on something which has been with me so long. Thanx :)

  11. What a wonderful dream! Without spending more time with you, it is difficult to determine whether you are experiencing your spirit animal or whether you are "remembering" a past life. The important point is that you and jaguar are connected, and you can use that connection whenever you need strength, cunning/street smarts, or powers of discernment. Lucky you!

  13. Hi Judy,
Love your website :) That being said, I've been drawn to jaguars for a long time. A boyfriend surprised me with a painting of a jaguar once and told me that I reminded him of a jagaur (before he even knew that I liked them). In the past 2 years meditation has been my savior. I did a power animal meditation and behold - the jaguar immediately emerged. Ever since then I have had visions of a jaguar staring me down intently... as if she is trying to convey something to me. There is absolutely no fear involved with this interaction. Its one of peace. At night when I go to sleep she walks around on my body, head down and then curls up next to me to sleep. I feel so blessed and at home with this. Please tell me what you think of this!
