Spirit Speaks – New galaxies

http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/09/17/tech-space-distant-galaxies.html  The infrared images from Hubble's new Wide Field Camera 3 show 16 galaxies that are 12.9 billion light-years from Earth and another five that are 13.1 billion light-years away.

The Hubble Ultra Deep Field, taken in 2004, is one of the Hubble's famous images. It shows the 'deepest portrait of the visible universe,' and galaxies so far away that light comes from the first galaxies to emerge shortly after the Big Bang. (NASA, ESA, Hubble Deep Field team)

There will always be new places that humans will find as they expand their ability to love themselves, each other, and the cosmos.  Dr. Brian Swimme tells the amazing story of how this is possible in his book, “The Universe Is A Green Dragon”.

Our Ancestors have always looked to the stars for guidance, and for inspiration, and for strength.  At some intuitive, or gut, level, they understood that the light required for human development and evolution, came from the stars.  Archaeologists have discovered evidence that even 6000 years ago, humans were naming the stars.  The word “constellation” is a Latin word that basically means a configuration of stars.

The Milky Way is our own galaxy viewed from the inside.  It is a vast collection of more than 200 billion stars, planets, nebulae, clusters, dust and gas. Our own sun and solar system are also part of the Milky Way galaxy. From  www.astropix.com and picture copyright by Jerry Lodriguss and John Martinez.

The word “galaxy” comes from both Latin and Greek, and basically means “stars that look like milk” and is what they called the group of stars that we now know as The Milky Way.

What makes these discoveries fascinating, is that Spirit wants us to know where all of our light comes from, and that most of our light is externally supplied.  Spirit also wants us to realize how connected we are even to the farthest reaches of the Universe.  If we can see it, we need to acknowledge its existence, and that we have a responsibility to care-take it.

A dialogue between a youth and wise elder becomes a fascinating exploration, into the creative force in all matter. This explication of physical forces is both mystical and ecstatic.
