Spirit Animal – Bluebird in the Kananaskis Mountains

When Roger and I took our trip into Kananaskis to meditate and walk with Nature, we were greeted almost right at the Kananaskis gate, by a male Bluebird.

The colour blue is associated with truth, with Archangel Michael, and with spiritual matters.  To us, we had clear guidance that Great Spirit and Mother Nature were giving approval, and celebrating, our decision to spend the day in the mountains.

Bluebird is known for its gentleness, and the message to us was that we needed to be gentle to ourselves for the day.  We needed to move slowly, to see the details of the trees, the rivers, the wild life, and the mountains. In part, the message is that we should move through the park in our own time, and enjoy each moment by being present in each moment.

Bluebird was just outside the gate when we left the park.  It was sitting on a post singing away, it seemed, about light and love and life.  When it finished the song, it flew over us and away.

It makes me think that blue is about truth, and that Bluebird was telling us to remember the truth that we learned this day

  • the truth of timing that the water taught us – that all things will wear down and change when continuous pressure is applied;
  • that the trees and the wind taught us the truth of flexibility -  flexibility is as much in the canopy of the tree (the branches and twigs and leaves) as it is in the trunk. All parts of it must be flexible;
  • that the ground feeds us and cools and warms us, depending on where we move on the Earth and that above all, it soothes and grounds us;
  • that the fire of the Sun is reflected by the water, moved by the wind, and absorbed by the stone people, the tree people and the plant people, and that all of us need the Sun to live.

Bluebird’s song reminded us that all truth is learned by people – some more slowly and others more quickly – and that all be allowed their truth with out being manipulated by others.  Everything has a time.

We had a wonderful time in the mountains, and we wish this experience for all.
